Naomi Haqq's learning experiences have had an international bent. As she did at age 14, she accompanied her father (Emmanuel Haqq) on a trip to India, where he engaged college-aged students in debates about science and Christianity. The endeavor fits his background; Dr. Haqq, a pastor, is a native of India with a doctorate in high energy physics from the University of Minnesota. On this trip, father and daughter also vacationed in Italy for a week.
An example of how even newer Americans can represent everything that's right about this Nation. Let's just hope Naomi and her father don't fly on any planes with TIPS-program wannabes like the Indian actors did the other day.

Here's one for ya - here in Nashville, parents who homeschool their kids must, nonetheless, present the Metro Schools with VACCINATION CERTIFICATES, despite the fact that these homeschoolers will never darken the door of any Metro School. In today's Tennessean.

I remember waaaaaay back in college, a psychology professor telling the class we should expect more studies comming out which espouse the notion that day care was good for children for socialization. His opinion was that this defied common sense and was geared toward encouraging more women to dump children "somewhere" and join the workforce. (i did say this was waaaaaaay back). I think the current home school movement has the right idea.

I also am shocked that teachers are not trying to "reverse engineer" what is right with what is being done for these kids. They obviously have no social suffering, communicate on a higher level than their peers, (no surprise if you are always around adults) and are not missing out on being a kid.

So, if a parent with the lack of a multi billion dollar budget and without three administrator to guide them can out perform public schools. What are public schools going to do with the competition?

Taken to a ridiculous extreme, would an employer favor a home schooled candidate vs a public school candidate? (here is a hint: the homeschooler will have better people skills)

Miriam is a bright girl to learn Krav Maga. Now if any punk pulls out a knife or even possibly a gun on her she can disarm him. It is a very good, common sense, type of self defense.

Good thing my wife is an educator...hopefully our child will not fall in with the UN-ification of the other children.

No doubt about it. These homeschooled teens are gung-ho about what they are doing, and, come fall, poised for another round of adventures in education. They are also preparing themselves, early in life, for adulthood. As Miriam puts it, "I think that high school just puts off the inevitable in terms of organizing your life, being responsible, and learning how to be self-directed."

The government facilitates that with public schools and the end result is worse than just putting of organizing ones life. It weakens people to indoctrinated mush which makes it easy to lead them around. The market creates the textbooks to suit the government and they overflow into the private schools as does the general curriculum.

I attended public school, but I consider myself to have been home-schooled. I reguarly zoned out during lectures at school, and did all my learning on my own. I wish I had been home-schooled from the beginning. Then I might have been able to leverage my genetic gifts better (music, writing, mathematics, and logical ability). Instead I felt frozen out socially because I refused to dumb myself down to fit in.

Even in the gifted program I was enrolled in, I felt like an outsider. The other students in the gifted program were elitist, whereas I felt that my innate intelligence was merely an attribute, and that how one uses what one is given in life is the true measure of success and worth. As a result, I was ostracized by my supposed peers. It's always been a mystery to me why smart and/or so-called good-looking people consider themselves better than others. Maybe that's a sign that I was raised right.

I may as well have been home-schooled, because the only lesson I learned from public school were how much I hated public school.

One of my friends is a teacher. He was talking about socialization with home schooled kids, and trying to spit out the Union garnage. I simply asked him if kids could get the social skills if they were, entered into the boy scouts, in little league, girl scouts, pee-wee football, altar boys or church choir (no pedophile jokes here), community service, a job, youth hockey, the Y.M.C.A. gym, youth sports leagues, becoming a memeber of Free Republic (okay just kidding about the last one), etc. At the point he just addmitted that the Union told him to always condemn home schooling, and to talk about socialization since there can't be any effective studies to measure it and people usually assume that home schooled kids will be worse off anyway.
