The more I see this stuff, the less hope I have for our race.

Me too.

If these stories were emblazoned "Brought to you by PETA" do you think folks might clue in that their emotions and passions were being manipulated?

I fail to understand why the senseless murder of the unborn -- deaths whose brutality boggles the mind -- doesn't work us up any longer the same way the senseless torture of some dumb animal does.

I've every respect for animals, mind you. It's one reason I don't eat meat as a matter of course even though I'm by no means a vegetarian. I prefer saving it for special occasions and limiting myself to stocks as a rule.

Cruelty to animals is not only despicable but a terrible sin for we stewards of creation.

But we are a nation who enshrines in principle the right for any woman to dispose of her unborn child as she sees fit ... regardless the FACT most abortions stop a beating heart.

All this sound and fury about cruelty to animals seems a bit of a put-on. Time to get used to some post-Christian realities, folks. Such disregard for suffering and devaluation of ALL life will be the norm, not the exception.

Excuse me, but how do you know that the posters here don't feel just as strong(if not moreso) about abortions?

Rather presumptious, and condescending on your part. Ya know, sometimes extreme pro-lifers can be extremely counterproductive.

The act of being born is what seems to emotionally seperate these two acts.

It's not the species difference that causes the different reaction in some people. It is the timing that causes the different reaction in some people.

It is because we have become desensitized to it. That is why the pro abort groups get so upset whenever a picture of an aborted fetus is used during debates. Plus, the media is more than willing to pump up the (well deserved, IMO) outrage on aminal cruelty when they do not on abortion.

I do agree with Bush in that we need to change people's minds on abortion. We (as a society) treat it as akin to removing a wart or an ingrown toenail.

What makes you think that those who abhor the torture of animals don't equally abhor the murder and dismemberment of little babies?

I know for a fact that I abhor BOTH.

#55...Well said!

Post 55 was well said.

We identify with some poor kitty grilled on a barbie....(& should!)...

..and the sick guy will probably get solid jail time for this.

What we, as a nation, don't identify with, are cute little babies being sucked out of their Mom's womb because those are pictures too gruesome......and of course, Planned Parenthood wants to protect our sensibilities.....(and their bank account!)

It does seem (& I heard this discussed even today)...that those who mistreat or kill animals, get a stiffer sentence than someone who mistreats or kills a baby.

The comparison is not valid. The valid comparison to abortion would be euthanizing an unwanted animal. You'd be hard pressed to find any pro-choicers who'd approve of killing a fetus which is far enough along to feel pain, in any way that involves torture (much less people standing around laughing as they committed the torture). The vast majority of abortions beyond the first few weeks are done by euthanizing the fetus first, and then removing it. I'm not sure what the laws on this are in the various U.S states, but in the U.K. I know that euthanasia is the mandatory first step in an abortion beyond the very early stages of pregnancy. The "pro-lifers" claims that late-term fetuses routinely have their limbs torn off while they're still alive, etc., are fabrications.

Ah Askel, I don't want to believe that we are headed or are at that state now. I want to believe that people are good and kind and believe in the value of all life.

How ironic, someone was outside my door and window here in the livingroom - the police just left - who are the souless ones - the animal or the person who left before the police could get here.
