The Right To Leave -- Very Patriotic Must Read
e-mail and some Tampa, FL newspaper ^ | N/A | N/A

Posted on 07/13/2002 8:23:34 AM PDT by Donna Lee Nardo

Hey Freepers! Below is from a circulating e-mail. It is terrific! Perhaps a Freeper wrote the editorial? I searched FR and I didn't find it posted -- so I am posting it. And even if it was posted previously, more people are bound to read it for the first time now, I hope.

From the circulating e-mail: "After hearing that the state of Florida changed its opinion and let a Muslim woman have her picture on her drivers license with her face covered, I believe this is even more appropriate. Read on, please!

This is an Editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper. He did quite a job; didn't he?

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.

I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely composed of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multi- cultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language!

"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from.

This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But, once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you to take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.

Even the Founders might have been bothered by this part (as the nation was not founded on solely Christian principles, and this is clearly documented). The rest is very good.

The need for some to mix religion into American patriotism is sometimes annoying to those of us who are patriotic but are not religious.

Oh boy are you going to get flamed. Freepers don't want to hear that Jefferson was a deist, even though he was. They are really maniacal on this point. Take it from a patriotic atheist who knows: you have really kicked the hornet's nest this time. Good luck, friend. I'll be rooting for you.... from a safe distance. (-;

Funny but I can find no right for you not to be annoyed anyplace in the Constitution. The world is full of people who believe differently then you do. You do not have the right to make them be silent because their religious beliefs do not coincide with yours. You do not have to recite the pledge or sing the "Star-Spangled Banner". You do not have the right to keep others from doing so either no matter where they are.

Wow! You can literally wear a bag over your head and have a photo ID made in FL???

Well, voters can't figure out a ballot card there, I guess a drivers' license like that isn't outrageous to them.

Can I get a photo on mine just showing me mooning the local empty headed politicos? Makes as much sense!

As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.

It was a culture formed by the freedom and adventure of living in a vast land teeming with undepleted resources.

All immigration must cease because the more people you pack into America, the less free you will be.

Of course, outlawing immigration would be bad for big business and politicians and for the liberals who want to destroy the self-reliance people learn when they are off by themselves with only themselves to depend on--so outlawing all immigration won't happen.

And if it did happen, it wouldn't be enforced.

As for me, I'm resigned to learning Spanish, etc.

BUMP! Absolutely! Of course, the liberal minds will be first to deny this, but religion surrounds our nations constitution, whether the libs like it or not.
Actually, many would prefer to re-write history , and erace this part. It stands in the way of their goal of creating the United Socialist States of America. Patriotism and religion get in the way of their immagined utopia (of hell).

The national government....will maintain and defend the foundations on which the power of our nation rests. It will offer strong protection to Christianity as the very basis of our collective morality

I guess they never read this quote.

Jefferson was a deist

... should not be interpreted as Jefferson, the man who edited the Jefferson Bible, was a godless, atheist.

It's less of a paradox than "religious and patriotic." Because think about it... if you ever had to choose between Jesus and America, which would you choose? For me, that choice never arises. Nothing trumps my Constitution, no Bible, no Koran, no Torah. No one trumps my President, no savior, no god, no UN leader, nothing.

It's not that you have to be religious to be patriotic, but it is important to recognize that religious morality is mandatory for the functioning of a decent society based on the Power of the Individual, even if said morality is not based on one's belief in a particular religion. I think what the email was arguing against are those who come in and declare their religion--i.e. agnosticism--as the only valid accompaniment fer a secular bureaucracy.

concerned about politics,

You're exactly right! You cannot study the debates surrounding the wording of the US Constitution without seeing their painstaking analysis of the Bible and of Christian writings as the foundation and justifications for the government they were attempting to forge.

There were extensive debates on "obscure" passages from Nehemia and other minor prophets and what these writing implied about this country. When they talked about religious freedoms, they talked about the freedom to worship the God of the Bible in whatever manner a man felt he should.

I understand your annoyance but human nature makes it unescapable.

I you look at any nation's social/cultural espressions, politics and religion are intertwined in the most secular-claiming systems.

Religion is the first great political divide and vice-versa. To me it's kind of like trying to eat one-half of a twin-popcicle without licking the juice from the other half.

Wether one is Deist or Atheist most definitely shapes their acceptance of political origins and destiny. - Not to mention doctrines. IMHO

All immigration must cease because the more people you pack into America, the less free you will be.

That would be an extremely bad idea. Let's face it: immigrants frequently do work that many Americans aren't willing to do. How many toilets are you willing to clean for Motel 6?

Also, considering the number of young people pouring out of our ridiculous government schools with barely an ability to read, much less attend medical school, without the influx of Indian physicians, our medical system would suffer greatly.

What we really need to do is end the welfare state and lock up the borders with agressive patrols. The American welfare state is the reason many of the sleazy come to the U.S. The other immigrants are here to work, and they usually work harder than the natural born Americans do.

Also, privatizing all public schools would go a long way towards making it possible for our own youth to step up to the plate and lead America.

Of course, neither will happen with our current crop of sleazebag politicians.
