ruptured underground gas line? I seem to recall that G-Town had a number of explosions due to that a few eyars ago. There was a gas line explosion at virtually the same location in Friendship Heights about a year ago.

Garage Explosion Forces Evacuations in Northwest
Associated Press
Friday, July 12, 2002; 3:03 PM
Part of a Northwest Washington neighborhood is being
evacuated this afternoon, following a fire and explosion
in a garage.
A 21-year-old man is in serious condition at Washington
Hospital Center. Witnesses said he was on fire.
This happened inside a garage at 5225 Wisconsin Ave. NW.
Apparently, the garage attendants heard an explosion, saw a
vehicle on fire and tried to put it out. A doctor in a nearby
building tried to help the injured man.
Wisconsin Avenue is shut between Harrison Street and Western
Avenue, while police, fire and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco
and Firearms comb the area.
Metro says the Jenifer Street escalators to the Red Line
subway station are closed, though the other entrances remain
open, and service isn't affected. There are also some bus
detours.

Yep, all aflame? Sounds like a hit. If we were in the middle east, the first thought might be an "own goal."

Dick Gephardt: " I'm trying to think, and nothings happening" Should read, "poof!"
As in, the inverse of cogito ergo sum: "I do not think. Therefore, I am not."

Know what? Maybe when Homeland Security discontinues to be a JOKE...I'll stop making jokes. Its the only way myself and alot of others keep our sanity about the 1/2 a$$ed, BS way that "Homeland Security" is being conducted. No offense is meant by anyone.

The address indicates it isn't close to any major monuments. Betcha it's either a jumpy terrorist ("red wire? yellow wire?") or a true accident.
Then again, I've only been to DC once and didn't stay long. Any who lives there got any more info?

5225 Wisconsin is a smallish office building, six or seven stories. My dentist works there. Maybe Al Qaeda was trying to steal his nitrous oxide.

With Ted Kennedy? Ted's head blew off?
