Welcome to the USO Canteen FReeper Style
.
Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened, it is magical how so many Freepers who post here, feel it too. It has been so dear how the Freepers kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place that had a huge living room for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me, saying that the Canteen is like home to them for the first time since they served.
This is your Canteen - a respite from our busy and sometimes troubling world. Make yourself at home.

For his service to the Republic....
.....named USNS Shughart (T-AKR 295) in honor of Sergeant First Class Randall D. Shughart, United States Army. He was awarded a posthumous Medal of Honor for distinguishing himself by actions above and beyond the call of duty, while protecting the critically wounded crew of a downed helicopter in Somalia. On October 3, 1993, in the absence of sufficient forces, he and his team leader volunteered to fight through enemy fire to protect the men at the crash site. Armed only with a sniper rifle and pistol, Sergeant First Class Shughart continued to fell attackers until his ammunition ran out and he was fatally wounded. His actions saved the pilot's life.

You and me, bro!
It got quiet real quick tonight...I think we wore poor Beep out.
And the others back East...they must be catching up on sleep so they can party on Saturday!

Ahh, what a time to find this!! Peggy Noonan's
latest has been posted to FR and is entitled Privileged to Serve.
There has been quite a bit of press lately about Pat Tillman of the Arizona Cardinals leaving the NFL to join the Army.
Great Article!

Snow Bunny and FallGuy left this AM.
It's about a 20+ hour drive to up here.
I should be hearing from them Fri.
I'd guess they are probably stopped for the night, or getting ready to.
To: 68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub
Thanks, tonk! I knew it was a long drive for them up there. How exciting for all of you! I am anxious to hear from her and hope she doesn't have any problems with her computer hookup! :)

"How exciting for all of you!"
I got the OK today to take her and FallGuy to the Coast Guard base for a tour.
I'm really excited about meeting both of them!
To: 68-69TonkinGulfYatchClub
Hello Tonkin!
When you see Snowbunny and Fall Guy, be sure to tell them hello for me. I haven't had the pleasure to meet them even though they live in my city. Chalk it up to a crazy summer for my gang, but I look forward to meeting them when they get back.
Traveling mercies for Snowbunny and Fall Guy. How are things in your neck of the woods?
