This is an unofficial quick and dirty presidential poll. Apparently, there is a good sized contingent on Free Republic that believes that President Bush is:

1. Not conservative enough
2. Not pro-life
3. Is a gun-grabber

Please list the numbers that best match the reasons you don't like Bush (or state other reasons if not on the list) and state whether you believe that President Bush should be defeated even if it means installing a Democrat in the Whitehouse.

Conversely, if you believe President Bush should be re-elected, please state why.

Please state who you would like to see win the Presidency in 2004 and whether or not you believe he/she has a chance of winning.

No. Let me repeat. I care about a broad range of issues...anyone who knows me knows this to be true. Anyone who knows more than a few pro-life people knows that to be true of them as well.

But the pro-life issue is central to what is happening to the soul of America...it is the central moral question of our day.

Of course I have to say something about my pet issue: China.

The China lobby has VERY extensive power, and they put some serious pressure on Washington.

Those people are not Chinese either. They are 100% US born, corporate big whigs.

While I am not anti-business, I am 'concerned' that everyone runs scared from the Boeing's, GE's and GM's and all the other China lobbyists.

While it is early on in the game, I would like to see certain things. Mainly, stuff regarding ECONOMICS in relation to China.

Maybe there is some strategic silence, but it seems like there is deafening silence on this issue, primarily because the corporations want silence on it.

There are ways to get around China without hurting our corporations, but the question is, will he do it?

As a former Army officer, I can tell you that sentiments like that do exist. However, one of the defining principles of our military is its subordination to civilian authority. That our military embraces this principle with a religious fervor is what has prevented us from degenerating into a banana republic military dictatorship. This includes the prohibition against speaking out publicly against elected politicians while serving on active duty.

And, while it may seem preferable given some of our previous presidents, it always turns out bad in the end. A military coup, however well intentioned, would have consequences for the Republic I do not care to contemplate.

If gore were elected, the military would let out a collective groan and then do its duty. As long as the commander-in-chief does nothing clearly in violation of the constitution with regard to his orders to the military, he will be obeyed. And that is the way it has to be.

As far as alternatives, I know of none worth mention. However...

Not conservative enough--while compromise in a country divided on principles is a necessity, I can't help but wish that the President would act like he cared about his principles in such situations at least in speech, and to hell with reelection.
Not pro-life--compromise or no, that's a pact with evil. Unconscionable.
Is a gun-grabber--I don't know. I have no reason to think so.
Is a federal power-grabber--It's in the nature of democratic regimes to centralize power. In that he's simply obeying the (stupid) directives of the people. But the simple fact is that federal power continues to increase.
Will appoint liberal judges--I have no reason to think that he will.
Is a globalist--Again, the same principle as w/being a power-grabber: centralization is an inherent danger in democratic republics, especially large ones. And one can't deny that such expansion is extraordinarily profitable for him and his business associates, can one?
Is in it just for oil--Doubtful, but as above, can one deny that oil interests are benefitted at least coincidentally?
Is too soft on immigration--That is a fact.
Is too soft (or too hard) on Israel--We're still funding their military, aren't we? Is that a good thing?
Is a crook--I have no reason to think this.
Other (you name it)--He prosecutes a military action with no clear achievable victory and calls it a war, calling for the centralization of power that wars require; this is foolish, however necessary it seems. And he abides by the people's wishes in things that he shouldn't--namely, that desire for aggrandizement and empire that is so often seen in very powerful nations. This is imprudent and dangerous, as well as being inimical to the nature of our regime.

But again, what other choice is there in the matter? A Gore?

(A note: This very issue is what makes vote fraud by the Democrats or anyone else so serious...there are few things that could lead to a breakdown of our civil society quicker than the knowledge that our votes weren't deciding our representation.)

First of all I never even mentioned Rinos in my post, your the one that brought that one up. BTW, everytime a moderate-conservative defeats a liberal the country moves a little further right (example if Coleman beats Wellstone).

Write in's are a wakeup slap to the Republican Party

I disagree with the amnesty that Pres. Reagan gave.That is the one of two things I disagreed with Reagan .That , and the Bitburg, Germany wreath laying ceremony honoring the Germany's soldoers during WW 2 as soldiers who were only obeying commands .I love Pres. Reagan nevertheless .

Well its good to know that there is some sentiment in the military for cleaning out the socialist. The consequences for America of maintaining the status quo of being governed by liars thieves and socialist is worse IMHO than having men like Pinochet rule. Better to have freedom under Caesar than slavery under a mobocracy. I know that sentiment isn't popular.

Sure, but they should have done it a heck of a lot sooner. We are at war, and it was a security breach.

We fought Miday in as much time as it took to shut down the Saudi "Visa Express" mill.

That said, it's important to realize that ending the "Visa Express" program is consequent to the War on Terror, as are nearly all of the INS crackdowns, and not idicative of the President's policies toward the vast bulk of the Illegals currently in our country.

What? Every single Democrat voted not guilty in the Senate. Fifty of the fifty-five Republicans voted guilty. Which party held the moral high ground here? If Trent Lott had let the trial last three months, would a single Democrat have suddenly voted guilty? Of course not.
