Tribute To HEROES

.

If there's anything that identifies and personifies all military people, it's the dogtags.
It's one of the first things we get, and sometimes it's the last reminder of who we are.
They signify our unity of purpose and our dedication to our country.

The great intangible of America's wars beyond logistics,
beyond strategy, beyond wonder weapons and Generals,
is the spiritual force of its fighting men and women -
and that is the force that the USO so serves.

THE LADY

I wonder what she thought
As she stood there, strong and tall.
She couldn't turn away,
She was forced to watch it all.

Did she long to offer comfort
As her country bled?
With her arm forever frozen
High above her head.

She could not shield her eyes
She could not hide her face
She just stared across the water
Keeping Freedom's place.

The smell of smoke and terror
Somehow reduced her size
So small within the harbor
But still we recognized...

How dignified and beautiful
On a day so many died
I wonder what she thought,
And I know she must have cried.

---------------------------------------------------

One

As the soot and dirt and ash rained down,
We became one color.

As we carried each other down the
stairs of the burning building,
We became one class.

As we lit candles of waiting and hope,
We became one generation.

As the firefighters and police officers
fought their way into the inferno,
We became one gender.

As we fell to our knees
in prayer for strength,
We became one faith.

As we whispered or shouted
words of encouragement,
We spoke one language.

As we gave our blood in lines a mile long,
We became one body.

As we mourned together the great loss,
We became one family.

As we cried tears of grief and loss,
We became one soul.

As we retell with pride of
the sacrifice of heroes,
We become one people.

We are:
One color
One class
One generation
One gender
One faith
One language
One body
One family
One soul
One people

We are The Power of One.
We are United.
We are America.

This candle was lit on the 11th of September, 2001.
Please pass it on to your friends & family so that it
may shine all across America.

"A candle loses nothing by lighting another candle,
it gains a greater brilliance."

Please e-mail a service person today and let them know they are not forgotten.
We have military all around the world that are there to ensure our Freedom.
It's really easy to e-mail any service person and say Thanks!

Author Unknown:
They walked in tandem, each of the ninety-three
students filing into the already crowded auditorium.
With rich maroon gowns flowing and the traditional
caps, they looked almost as grown up as they felt.
Dads swallowed hard behind broad smiles, and moms
freely brushed away tears.

This class would not pray during the commencements
---- not by choice but because of a recent court
ruling prohibiting it. The principal and several
students were careful to stay within the guidelines
allowed by the ruling.

They gave inspirational and challenging speeches, but
no one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked for
blessings on the graduates or their families.
The speeches were nice, but they were routine.......
until the final speech received a standing ovation.

A solitary student walked proudly to the microphone.
He stood still and silent for just a moment, and then
he delivered his speech....an astounding sneeze!

The rest of the students rose immediately to their
feet, and in unison, they said, "GOD BLESS YOU."

The audience exploded into applause. The graduating
class found a unique way to invoke God's blessing on
their future ... with or without the court's approval.

GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Such a beautiful opening, Snow Bunny, that I won't even attempt to elaborate with mere words.
This is one we feel deep, deep down in the heart, and share silently, head bowed,
echoing the sentiments and memories within us.

Help us preserve this nation, Lord, as we thank you for all Your gifts.
Amen.

Let me add my thanks to everyone else's Snow Bunny. You have done such a wonderful job and the cottage is beautiful.

Your beautiful heart and soul enriches the lives of so many. God Bless You, Snow Bunny!

p.s. Thank you for the part about the dog tags. When I was helping my husband pack to leave, we were going down the list and when I retrieved his dog tags from his "Navy drawer", I just broke down crying and crying. I saw them as signifying nothing but injury or death, since I saw them as only useful in the event a servicemember needs to be identified because he or she can't identify him or her self. Since then, a few people have set me straight and now I come to see them as you do. Thank you! Love, GG

The following has, I'm sure, been posted before, but going along with today's theme, I hope you don't object to a repeat.

Hey got this email .... makes sense to me This was very interesting: I thought you would enjoy this interview with Billy Graham's daughter. The last paragraph is MOST IMPORTANT

In light of the many perversions and jokes we send along to one another for a laugh, this is a little different: This joke today is not intended to be a joke, it's not intended to be funny, it's intended to get you thinking.

*Billy Graham's daughter was interviewed on the Early Show and Jane Clayson asked her "How could God let something like this happen?" ( regarding the attacks on Sept. 11 ).

Anne Graham gave an extremely profound and insightful response. She said "I believe God is deeply saddened by this, just as we are, but for years we've been telling God to get out of our schools, to get out of our government and to get out of our lives. And being the gentleman He is, I believe He has calmly backed out. How can we expect God to give us His blessing and His protection if we demand He leave us alone?"

In light of recent events...terrorists attack, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O'Hare (she was murdered, her body found recently) complained she didn't want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.

Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school... the Bible says thou shalt not kill, thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbor as yourself. And we said OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn't spank our children when they misbehave because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr. Spock's son committed suicide). We said an expert should know what he's talking about. And we said OK.

Then someone said teachers and principals better not discipline our children when they misbehave. The school administrators said no faculty member in this school better touch a student when they misbehave because we don't want any bad publicity, and we surely don't want to be sued (there's a big difference between disciplining, touching, beating, smacking, humiliating, kicking, etc.). And we said OK.

Then someone said, let's let our daughters have abortions if they want, and they won't even have to tell their parents. And we said OK.

Then some wise school board member said, since boys will be boys and they're going to do it anyway, let's give our sons all the condoms they want so they can have all the fun they desire, and we won't have to tell their parents they got them at school. And we said OK.

Then some of our top elected officials said it doesn't matter what we do in private as long as we do our jobs. Agreeing with them, we said it doesn't matter to me what anyone, including the President, does in private as long as I have a job and the economy is good.

Then someone said let's print magazines with pictures of nude women and call it wholesome, down-to-earth appreciation for the beauty of the female body. And we said OK.

And then someone else took that appreciation a step further and published pictures of nude children and then further again by making them available on the Internet. And we said OK, they're entitled to free speech.

Then the entertainment industry said, let's make TV shows and movies that promote profanity, violence, and illicit sex. Let's record music that encourages rape, drugs, murder, suicide, and satanic themes. And we said it's just entertainment, it has no adverse effect, nobody takes it seriously anyway, so go right ahead.

Now we're asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don't know right from wrong, and why it doesn't bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves. Probably, if we think about it long and hard enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with "WE REAP WHAT WE SOW."

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world's going to hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.

Funny how you can send 'jokes' through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think twice about sharing.

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing?

Funny how when you forward this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you're not sure what they believe, or what they WILL think of you for sending it. Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit. If not then just discard it.. no one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don't sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in!
