Welcome to the USO Canteen FReeper Style
Message from Snow Bunny to all those who visit the Canteen.
This is how I think of the USO Canteen Freeper Style. It is like a cottage down a road, a place where a weary veteran can spend the night.
Since it opened it is magical how so many Freepers that post here feel it too. It has been so dear how the Freepers kept making it a cottage - a home-type of place that had a huge living room for them to visit in and a dance floor, a library, etc.
Many Veterans have written to me, saying that the Canteen is like home to them for the first time since they served.
This is your Canteen - a respite from our busy and sometimes troubling world. Make yourself at home.

Our Flag does not only fly at our homes and other buildings.
Our Flag goes to War,it is in the Battle along side our fighting men and women.
And our Flag flys in our HEARTS!

Arlington, Va., Sept. 13, 2001 Military personnel salute as fire and rescue workers unfurl a huge American flag over the side of the Pentagon during rescue and recovery efforts following the 11 Sept. terrorist attack. U.S. Navy photo by Michael W. Pendergrass.
Our American Flag always shines brightly, Always. It aquires its brilliance from the American veterans who have fought and died to preserve it. This flag is our nations very highest honor. There is none higher.
This flag is offered by a grateful nation and the American veterans who have fought and died to preserve it. This flag is given by the United States of America in memory of your loved one. It is for their honorable and faithful service to our beloved country.
I pledge allegiance to the flag
of the United States of America
and to the Republic for which it stands,
one nation, under God, indivisible,
with liberty and justice for all.

Beneath an unfurling American flag,
an American soldier tends a wounded
comrade in Gray's depiction of some of
the fighting in the Boxer Rebellion in China.
This detail is from a large panel that depicts
Colonel Liscum at the Battle of Tientsin on
July 13, 1900, when he seized the regimental
standard from a wounded color sergeant and
issued what would be his last order.......
"Keep up the fire!"
"Keep up the fire!" has since been the motto
of the U.S. Army 9th Infantry.

Hi Victoria! Thanks! I'm doing okay; I'm blubbering like a big baby watching the Espys, and the award they're giving to the wives and mother of Jeremy Glick, Todd Beamer, Tom Burnett, and -- oh, who is the other one?! I can't think straight!! I need Kleenex!! *sniff*

LOL!! I'm just more of a dog person, I guess! Always have been. Dogs are sweet and loyal and kiss tears off your face when you're crying too hard. . . . Cats don't care and won't even bring you a tissue! ;-p
