God knows I’m not a prude. As a teenager, I hid Playboys under my mattress, ogled the lingerie ads in the Sears Catalog and even knew about the secret place at my high school where you could look into the girls’ locker room shower.
On most Saturday nights, I was in the back seat of my ’57 Ford at the Autodrome drive-in in Radford, Virginia, wrestling with some young lady, trying to score the teenage sexual equivalent of a home run (funny how we learned early on to equate sports and sex).
In the immortal words of Meatloaf in his anthem to raging teenage hormones, the goal was to “see paradise by the dashboard light.”
Memories of those angst-filled days came back over the 4th of July weekend while sitting under a refreshment stand tent at a carnival in East St. Louis, Illinois, watching too many young girls parade by in the accepted attire of the times.
After an hour of so of this, I had to wonder: How in the hell does a teenage boy today keep his hormones under control? Lord, I had enough trouble when a glimpse of young female leg above the knee would satisfy the lustful cravings of a young man’s desire.
But now, with bare-midriff tops, low slung jeans, low-cut haltertops, thongs and see through blouses, there ain’t a hell of a lot left to the imagination.
We’re not talking about just 17, 18 or 19 year old hardbodies here, but 12 and 13 year olds wearing shorts low enough for the tops of thongs to show and blouses with enough open buttons to show what they may one day have to show.
Add to that enough navel, nose and eyebrow rings to start a jewelry store and you start to wonder just when it became acceptable for young women to dress like hookers.
Like most men, I enjoy looking at sexy young things, although at my age, “young” begins at about age 45. But I wonder if young girls shouldn’t at least go through puberty before letting all that they may or may not have hang out for public view.
Should a 15-year-old girl be parading around in public wearing jeans cut so low that they require shaving of pubic hair or shorts that ride high enough in back to show off butt cheeks? Are parents allowing this or are these nymphets changing into their CFM attire after they leave home?
If current teenage attire can shock even a dirty old man like me, has it gone to far?
I don’t have an answer. I do find it unsettling. If I had a teenage daughter right now, I’d probably lock her away until a safer age, say about 30 or maybe even 40.
My daughter never did. For me, it was after I married. My mother would have killed me, but, for some reason, my husband loved it. We've been married for thiry years, I guess he loved it a lot.
Our daughter, believe it or not, complains about her boy friend's six year old daughter dressing like a hooker. I tell her, "Well, in my day, we waited until we were married to dress that way."
I had this conversation with my daughter around 2nd or 3rd grade. She threatened to call 911 if I spanked her. I told her:
"Yes, you can call 911. Yes, they might even take me away. But, eventually they're going to let me go. I'll be coming back home in a very bad mood. Guess what happens then?"It's now several years later, and the subject never came up again...
Want to hear a good one? Male teachers/administrators at this unnamed school ARE NOT ALLOWED to send a female student up for inappropriate dress. Why? Because that would instantaneously be grounds for a sexual harassment lawsuit. Female teachers don't seem to care (to be honest, very few teachers care at all about anything except grimly hanging on until they can get their pensions), and female administrators never, I repeat, NEVER, come out of their offices (I have worked there a year and have never even seen one in the hall, didn't know they existed until I'd been working there almost 8 months), so nothing ever gets done and the slut-festival continues. I'm not really angry about this as much as sad. When I see one of these poor girls I realize her family doesn't care about her and has no problem with her already marketing herself as just another piece of meat. It's an entire generation of porn stars.
For one thing, the mothers like to dress that way themselves. You can go out and see some 35+ year old woman dressed as if she is Britney Spears. They are not parents to their daughters, they are one of the girls. Just as the mothers don't want to be thought of as "not cool" by their daughters, they don't want their daughters to be thought of the same way by their peers. Believe me, it gets worse in college. I can't count the number of girls who show up FOR CLASSES in either pajamas, lounging pants, or flimsy tops with no bra underneath.
One of the girls in my school used to wet her jeans and get into them that way. They'd dry skin tight on her.

I was just short and very stocky, so designer jeans and I didn't work well together. I think that's why I naturally gravitated to punk--cammos, sneakers, and big baggy Ramones t-shirts were haute couture for me! Not to mention the pink/purple/blue hair phases that so angered my grandmother and boggled the minds of my classmates (back, that is, in the early 80s, when rainbow hair could get you killed, stuffed in a locker, or both!)

I hope you're not comparing the female dressing styles of 1902 to now.
There is no comparison and attempts to claim that every generation thinks the young people dress like prostitutes is mistaken. The huge difference is the culture, the society we live in, no longer protects females or expects them to maintain any stsndard of decency, as they did in 1902. Today, young girls dress like a prostitute, have casual sex like an unpaid prostitute and call it 'freedom'. That's the difference.
Young teenage girls are often unable to handle the emotional trauma that casual and loveless sex entails and can be easily be hurt, not to mention raped by older, predatory males who expect that a girl dressed like a whore will perform like one, no matter if she is 13. Sadly, some girls will.
This is a far, far different world than it was in 1902 and the worries that many have regarding young teens dressing like sluts (near naked) is well founded and not simply one generation complaining about anothers dressing choices. That should be obvious.
Nope, nor would I until I had a legally binding contract to teach at this school. And when that day comes, oh, when that day comes... suffice it to say you will all probably see Jonathon Spectre in the national media.

That was one thing they said. But another strong argument was that women were ticked off at the double moral standard. The view was that, if men sleep around, women should be just like them. Promoting virtue for women was oppressive.
The women's lib movement did a good job of identifying problems and unfairness. In many cases, however, it proposed even more destructive solutions.
