The Associated Press Monday, July 8, 2002; 10:21 AM LOS ANGELES ?? An amateur video shows Inglewood police officers punching a teenager and slamming his head against the hood of a patrol car, and the department said it will investigate.

The probe was announced Sunday after the tape, taken a day earlier from a nearby motel, was turned over to police and local media.

Just wondering.. since this is an AP article ..cant you just post the entire article and not even link it to WP? After all you could have found same article at AP website or off any newspaper that runs AP stories?

Actually, I saw this tape on CNN no more than 15 minutes ago.

The kid is black.

AP carried a report that had more detail, identifying the videographer and the circumstances of the altercation.

They also compared it to Rodney King, mentioning the fact that King lost in his suit at the local level, but won at the Fed level. And that he was awared 3.8 million.

With inflation, this kid will probably get 6.8 million.

Wonder if he'll do like King and blow it all on loose women and drugs? And beat his wife and drive drunk while doing so?

Damn, can't we all just get along?

What DIDNT the tape show? Id be willing to bet this is NOT a police brutalilty case. I would also be willing to bet that resisting arrest is involved.

I didn't see the tape, only found this Post article. I think we can count on the race card and the brutality card, and now they're saying he's mentally handicapped, so throw that card in, and ..................

A large settlement from the city managers whose memory of April 92 still looms large. I just have a hard time believing that this was unprovoked.Cops get mad when people resist arrest. Having said that,if the cop was hitting him for no reason,well,I dont have time for that either.

The story was on Drudge, who usually invokes a chorus of guffaws when listed as a source. Drudge linked it to WP. Guess I can't win for losin'!

Funny! That's probably what the Biejing Police say too.

The man was face down on the hood and handcuffed when the officer punched him in the side of the face. It they wanted to kick his ass, they should have left him unshackled. It also looks like one of the other officers censured him. The only promising note is that it was a veritable rainbow of officers...white, black and hispanic...so they won't have the old white/black race angle.

So the cops walked up and started swinging because IPD is made up of rogue racist cops? I didnt see the tape so maybe I should stop speculating,but having grown up in Prince Georges County,Maryland, Im dubious of rogue cops beating up innocents.
