Well, I think this would have to do with something in specific, the Auditor Independence Rule, if I've got this right. Something that the old SEC chair, Arthur Levitt, wanted and Congress threw a stink over. After being suitably remunerated by AIPAC apparently. Found quite a bit on the Senators who stuck their oars in, but not a lot on House members. But I'm still looking :)

What makes you think you are entitled to know if Osama is dead or alive?
It won't change the fact that al Qada is still dangerous and a lethal threat against us all.
But you need to hear it from GWB ?
You don't handle war every well, do you?
# 578 by habs4ever *************************
What war?
This is at most a police action.
The Vietnam "conflict" was officially a police action which was in reality an un-declared war. We classified our captured enemy combatants as Prisoners of War, and allowed them all the protections provided for by the Geneva Convention.
The "War on Terror" is officially a war but is in reality an international police action against international criminals. Bush said so in his speech today.
Quote from the Bush transcript :
"...these are like international criminals, is what they act like. They kind of hide and order things up and hide again..."
Even though we are told that we really are at war, our Prisoners of War are classified as "captured enemy combatants," and we are told publicly that they do not merit the protections of the Geneva Convention.
Excuse me for believing that there is something fishy going on.
If Clinton was still President, or even Gore, there is no way members of this forum would quietly accept the behavior of our government.

In fact, when clinton had one of his rare press conferences, I never watched. Couldn't only take so much of his yucks!

Did you see Meet the Press yesterday? Tauzin and Levitt had it out. Congressman Tauzin said that his committee was going to investigate the SEC doings from 1993 and ex chairman Levitt during Clinton years said it was not necessary. And Tauzin said oh yes there was a need. And then Meet the Press showed a video of Harvey Pitt and he said he inherited a mess from Levitt and Levitt downplayed it by saying that he too had inherited a mess as well as Pitt's successor would meet a mess as well.

Name calling only means you don't have much of an argument with facts and therefore resort to pettiness. Too bad.

"Another stunning development: President Bush's approval ratings have actually improved in the weeks since the Democrat-media complex began shifting blame to Bush"If there is one thing I learned during the Clinton years it is that the American pipple rally round the Presidency. His numbers will go up again and the presses numbers will go down some more. Just like the Clinton years.

The switch in company donation--can you prove it. Great to have as ammunition when arguing and discussing with the Bush bashers. Let me know where you got these facts.

Actual transcript:
Q Sir, you said in your speech tomorrow you're going to talk about some of the excesses of the 1990s, when a lot of money was flying around, people were playing a lot of games with money.
THE PRESIDENT: That's right.
Q You weren't President then; Bill Clinton was President. Do you think in some way he contributed to that, set a moral tone in any way?
THE PRESIDENT: No
This is certainly not a glowing endorsement of BJ Klintoon by 43, you could actually view this as fairly ambiguous, the Stainmaster certainly did not set any "moral tone"... Bush certainly does not want to be his judge & jury, why should he-- it is a losing battle?
LET HISTORY DECIDE KLINTONS LEGACY.
To: mhking
If it wasn't for the foreign correspondents and one other American reporter who I didn't recognize, Jim Angle would have had about the only thought out question that was asked.
It was disgusting to see the press corps act like mouthpieces for the DNC/daschle/clinton!

You don't know what you're talking about, mister; carenot is an old granny, older even than dirt.
If she was going to back away from a fight she wouldn't be forcing her wrinkled up, arthritic, age-spotted fingers to respond courteously to the vicious, hate-filled Bush-bot personal attacks directed at her.

Harvey Pitt is the head of the SEC. Has been on the job less than a year. So to blame him for the fiasco of the corporations is a little farfetched. Pitt used to be an industry lawyer and many people think that he knows too many of the corporate world. He has recused himself in some investigations they say but apparently after a year that is not necessary. Harvey Pitt commented that he inherited a mess and he also said that so far none of his buddies have sent him flowers He also said that he was not running for office so the gloves are off as far as his job is concerned.

I didn't see Meet the Press but Cong Tarzin is one of my favorites. I cannot wait for the House hearings to begin!
Thanks for making my evening!
This explains why the RATS are in an uproar and attacking Pres Bush! Knew something was up!

Mccain was the only Republican member of the Keating 5 and believe he was in the House at the time. He joined John Glenn in it.
That explains mccain's recent comments. I wonder what Pitt has uncovered on mccain?

How else do you classify combatants that act independently of their own country?? Very pedantic of you, exodus.
But what I love most in reading your stuff is the knee jerk claim that if it was Gore doing this, we'd be up in arms. That only partisanship drives our thinking. It may for you.
But I'm not you.I am made of sterner stuff.
But if harping on how independent you are is supposed to be proof of your intelligence, then go for it.I don't care.
And only a fool would think that Al Gore would know how to think his way out a soggy Buddhist Temple fortune cookie, let alone marshall US forces abroad to wipe out al Qada.
But don't let that stop you from thinking Gore would do the same as Bush, and even be an improvement.

But if you get him first, before he jumps out, then he's just a couple of weeks of yummy extra protein rations...

And you'll bust your teeth on that tough old granny.
Fair warning, youngster.
