Why? If you assume your premise is valid, where are the facts behind your conclusion? Why are you assuming that those close to the family are the only ones who could mastermind such a crime? That is a leap. Most druggies I have had the misfortune to have been around have delusions of grandeur. Maybe Ricci doesn't have the brainpower, but Angela may have conjured up this scheme.
2) Why did Ricci retrieve the jeep on May 30 if the kidnapping did not take place until May 5? Could the kidnapping have been planned earlier, then was delayed for some reason?
This portion of your theory may have merit. The death of the grandfather may have interupted the scheme.
If I were to draw a flow chart of possibilities, I believe that all viable choices would still lead to someone close and trusted to the family (not Ricci) as the mastermind.
Why don't you build the flow chart? You have to look at motivation and known facts - not speculation. The family's only real motivation would have been a huge life insurance policy, which apparently was not the case. The "gay" linkage "reported" (using the term loosely) would not have provided sufficient motivation for killing a child.
Your assumption that a mastermind is required may not be valid. Ricci knew the victim, possibly had a key to the house, knew the layout of the house, and was a cat burglar by trade. All that was missing from a plan would be where to hide the victim and establishing an alibi. We already know that his alibi is full of holes. None of that requires rocket science.

Admittedly, what I posted is speculation. As for sticking to facts, I am not sure what they are. So much has been stated and refuted that I have come to the conclusion that much of what we "know" may be in error. I listen to reporters ask questions and when they report what they've just learned, I find that their interpretation is different from mine. I believe that LE, rightly, is keeping many known facts close to the vest. So like others on this thread, I am speculating. Of course it is possible that Ricci ran this by himself. I just don't think this is the most probable alternative, but that certainly doesn't make it so. I've listened to people with LE backgrounds come to the same conclusion.
I DO appreciate the give and take of fellow freepers and learn a great deal through reading the opinions and disagreements of others. That's the reason I posted. It may not have sounded so, but my primary wish is for ES to come home--yesterday!
Well, you're right about one thing--I am not a rocket scientist! And my assumption may not be valid. This guy is a petty thief and may have done this on his own. My gut feeling is that he didn't. But I've been wrong before. Ricci has spent most of his adult life in jail and with his recent marriage and steady job, had a lot to live for. Had reasons to keep his nose clean. Since I'm not a criminal, I don't think like one and may have misjudged him. But I get the feeling that LE can't pin it on him either.

I think you got it backward. The media is only covering this because of the immense public desire to know more as evidenced by these threads. Do you think the media would waste their money covering something that doesn't translate into increased viewers? This is a riveting case for a whole lot of reasons, something you apparently don't understand.
