Because I'm amazed and annoyed by the willingness of people to become consumed with whatever the media puts in front of them. I think you got it backward. The media is only covering this because of the immense public desire to know more as evidenced by these threads. Do you think the media would waste their money covering something that doesn't translate into increased viewers? This is a riveting case for a whole lot of reasons, something you apparently don't understand.

The media manufactured interest. That's painfully obvious. Ask people where they first heard about this case. 99.9% of them will say they saw it on TV News. Probably Fox News Channel, which specializes in tabloid-style reporting. There is nothing about this case that is any more riveting than thousands of other missing persons cases that happen each year. The one factor that does stand out is the absurd wealth of the family.
