The Bush administration has approved the first federally funded project using stem cells obtained from fetuses aborted up to eight weeks after conception, expanding the scientific promise of stem cell research and complicating the ethics debate that surrounds it.

I will trust Bush over the media every second of the day.

Not gonna quibble over your faith-based intellectual discerning.

As for your "One Issue" statement.

ALL HUMAN RIGHTS FLOW FROM THE RIGHT TO LIFE ... A SELF-EVIDENT TRUTH SPECIFICALLY SET FORTH IN OUR DECLARATION, WITHOUT WHICH DOCUMENT, THE CONSTITUTION CANNOT BE INTERPRETED JUSTLY.

You get that first right wrong and the rest is a hopeless trainwreck.

The GOP has no intention of repealing Roe or revoking Legal Abortion. With an eye toward our population implosion crisis, they would like to reduce abortions, I'm sure.

Whether or not you are ready to realize exactly the extent to which key Republican leadership also support certain population control and eugenic objectives, the fact remains that they are supporting and protecting the foundation of Legal Abortion and the "right to choose [whether to kill the unborn or not]" on which artificial conception, artificial reproduction, manufacture and harvesting of embryos, use of fetal tissue and body parts all rest.

It does not answer my question. If Bush's hands are tied, then what was the point of his August, 2001 speech? Why is it that noone raised the point of this 1993 law and say that the President cannot do anything about it. As was explained to me, that was about fetal stem-cell and this is embryonic. In any case, President Bush said to the Conference of US bishops that he will not support embryonic stem-cell research, and he has rescinded his pledge since then.

Where exactly do you think these lines came from? Last time I checked only a human sperm and egg could conceive a human being.

After they mature to embryo stage they rip their stem cells out, which kills the baby. From there they keep replicating the line.

The original source is still an innocent human being!

To resolve the issue... Because congress, including some Republicans were going to make it totally legal...

Bush's position was for funding where the stem cell was already defertilized (if there is such a word)...

You sound like Citizen Reporter. I leave to go to bed without responding to her last inane post and she's confident she's run me off the playing field.

You guys are too much.

I can type faster than most people think and tend to strafe this place as a rule. AND NOW I'M OFF to continue my Sunday chores. I hear the dryer buzzing. I'll check in upon my return so you can clock my next response time more accurately ... lol. =)

Ummmm, President Bush cannot "present a bill" to Congress or anyone else. He is the Chief Executive and cannot create a bill because that's the job of the legislature. Didja ever take a civics class?-- You know-- 3 branches of government, each with seperate powers because that's the way the founding fathers created the government in the Constitution. Here in Texas, kids study those facts in 7th grade.

So, on a sentiency scale a fetus is definitely a lot more sentient than an embryo. If fetal stem-cell research is going on for a decade, then why not embryonic? Do they get the fetal stem-cells from abortion?

Have a good one.

"Defertilized"-- no such word. They stop the embryo's cells from multiplying after the number of cells reach a certain count. The ignorance on this thread is amazing.

Yes, one source of fetal stem cells is from the "product of abortion." (Chilling phrase, isn't it?) They can also get stem cells from fresh umbilical cords. There are also adult stem cells.

My conscience is clear before God... I've stated that I believe that abortion is immoral and consider it murder... What is the inherent evil in my belief that only God can create life? Its really sad there are those like yourself who are much more concerned about those in public forums rather than their own leaders who are definitely committing sin and illegalities...

Would his attempts succeed with a Dem controlled Senate?

This is a completely wrong attitude. It literally makes Dubya look weak, if his agenda cannot be moved through the Senate. Of course, I am assuming that he has a pro-life agenda to start off with. How come it never stops the Democrats to further their agenda when Republicans controlled both houses of Congress. Democrats know how to squeeze Republicans with a little help from the media. Republicans need to adopt a similar strategy.

Okay... I may not have a scientific understanding like yourself but I understand the concept.

Republicans need to adopt a similar strategy.

They have and when they can't muster 60 votes in the senate it goes nowhere... Hasn't that been the case since Jeffords turned the senate over to the dems?

You need to be asking yourself how did the Democrats get their filibuster proof majority on liberal legislations?

Thanks for posting this! When I saw this headline on the frontpage of the Tribune, I was surprised to see that they finally reported this (Not what I want to see on a Sunday morning). Some pro-life advocacy groups have been talking about this for over a month now.

"There are also adult stem cells."

No one here has a problem with adult stem cells. It is embryonic stem cells and stem cells taken from aborted fetuses that many of us have a problem with.
