What Muslims must do
Boston Globe ^ | 7/6/2002 | Abdul Cader Asmal

SEPT. 11 WAS a wake-up call - for Americans to take up arms against terrorism and for Muslims to ask who speaks for them.

The concept for Americans was simple - to identify and neutralize the enemy. The strategy for Muslims has been anything but easy. Paralyzed into inaction by competing emotions of shame and outrage, humiliation and resentment, they have yet to deliver a cohesive response to invidious questions about their religion.

In this context all scriptures taken out of their historical and moral context can be distorted to promote an agenda of evil.

Those who perpetrated the Sept. 11 attacks knew this.

False, false, false. But it allows him to then fire a broadside at critics of Islam:

Ironically those who now exploit this atrocity to propagate their hatred of Muslims know this only too well.

Classic propaganda technique. Slip in the subjective statement, a muddied lie, to deflect from the real issue.

>...confers a special status upon Christians and Jews...

That special status under sharia is the same special status that blacks were honored with before emancipation. I'm sure all involved are thrilled at the prospect. Women in particualr are eagar to embrace their special status signified by wearing a tent all day.

Yes, they call us combatants.

Islam is indeed a religion of peace.

Yeah? Where in the Koran does it say love thy neighbor?

Right next to the part where it says "Kill them where they are found."

If the answers to these questions are in the negative

What is never asked, nor answered is "What if the answers to these questions are in the POSITVE??"

"While the terrorists of Sept. 11 were Muslim, they were deviant Muslims;"

Right! And that's why all those Palistinians and other moslems were jumping for joy and handing out candy to each other when they heard about 9/11.

Suuuuuuuuuure, Melvin!

"Paralyzed into inaction by competing emotions of shame and outrage, humiliation and resentment, they have yet to deliver a cohesive response to invidious questions about their religion."

And might I add, a backward cult-like outlook on the world with a obsessive devotion to their religon contributed to their "inaction". On a personal note, the only house on my block that didn't fly the American flag after 9/11 was the Muslim family 4 doors down. I'm not buying any of this anymore. Actions speak louder than a few words from their leaders and press and even my president. I never thought I would become so prejudiced against an entire group of people...it makes me sad.

Such an organization must be empowered not only to monitor and prosecute those who purvey hate and advocate mayhem, but also to build consensus and become the global voice of Islam that speaks for all Muslims.

Show of hands...Who here thinks that the "hate" to be monitored and prosecuted is not that of radical Islamists, but rather that of , say, the Southern Baptists, or others willing to criticize radical Islam?

Excellent! Thanks to Abdul Cader Asmal!

This was a great part of his oped article: In order to refurbish the image of Islam and rescue countless Muslims around the world who through the mindless actions of Muslims themselves have become the victims of the war on terror, the global community of Islam has to take an unprecedented step - a step to develop an international Islamic jurisdictional council.

Such an organization must be empowered not only to monitor and prosecute those who purvey hate and advocate mayhem, but also to build consensus and become the global voice of Islam that speaks for all Muslims.

I just hope that those who live to commit vile acts of terrorism don't try to kill this brave man, Abdul Cader Asmal!

Thanks for posting. You should save it for the Freepers who want to take their wrath out on every Muslim. Lets hope that he has many supporters and will get many more who are as outspoken for justice as he is.

Jesus is THE WAY, THE TRUTH, THE LIFE. Gawd, I'd hate to be a muslim who has killed women and children in the name of Allah, and at the Judgement Seat be told, that not only are you not going to a heavenly paradise, with virgins galore, but instead are headed for the hottest part of h-ll. You muslims who murder, you are in for the surprise of your miserable lives.....

There's a likelihood that this would be about as beneficial to the rest of humanity as uniting the Germans of the world under the Third Reich. But at least then we'd know whom to attack.

While the religious background of terrorists of other faiths is either totally ignored...

It was the terrorist themselves who brought their religion into this. As horrific as any of the terrorist acts mentioned in this article, i.e., Oklahoma and Columbine, did those killers do it in the name of their religion, in the name of their god? I thought not.

The author is again trying to pose the muslim extremists as victims of discrimination, when in fact we know the truth.
