I joined the USAF in July of 1973. I went to Lackland AFB, Texas for training.

The Gang .......and Writing Home

I was the oldest recruit in my basic training class.

We graduated the last week of August 1973.
I was 23 years old and they made me dorm chief. (HBSIC, Head baby sitter in charge).

After Basic Training I went to Technical School at Goodfellow AFB, (San Angelo) Texas.

I was trained as a printer systems operator.

I went home in December 1973 and got married.

My first duty station was Karamursel, CDI Turkey.
In addition to my job I did a little of this. I'm the one on the right.

Turkey was great, We had a lot of things to do.
Including touring Turkey, shopping in the bazaar in Istanbul.

In January 1976 my son ELMALO was born in Adana, Turkey (Incirlik CDI).

After Turkey I was assigned to Iraklion AS, Crete, Greece. Smack dab in the middle of the beautiful Mediterranean Sea. We toured Greece and most of Europe while stationed there.

My next assignment was Offutt AFB, Nebraska. where I was crossed trained as a USAF Weather Observer. Here I am briefing the SAC Commander.

After Nebraska I was sent to Elmendorf AFB, Alaska as a printer system operator. I don't need to tell what an experience Alaska was. Hunting, Fishing and watching the Northern Lights at 30 below zero.

While in AK my two daughters where born.

From Alaska I was sent to school at Fort Mead, Maryland (NSA) and on to Misawa AB, Japan.

Next it was a trip to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. We was assigned to K.I. Sawyer AFB as a training manager. I got my first issue of BDU's here they were Army hand me downs. The AF didn't have them available yet.

I worked in the Security Police shop and also maintenance for B-52 and KC-135 Tankers.

Also at KI our foster daughter Marty joined the family.

My next duty was Wright Patterson AFB, Ohio. I was the training manager for the Civil Engineer Squadron. We were on mobility status at Wright-Pat and did stuff like building an AF base from scratch out in the boonies.

We could go anywhere in the world with 9 hours notice build a AF base with runway, hospital, BX, housing, chow hall, everything to sustain a combat unit. My other part time jobs were Load Master for the C-5A and Snow Removal in the Winter time (Fun, Fun, Fun).

Back to Misawa next for two years then a Medivac flight to the USAF Regional Hospital at Travis AFB, California for 7 months then a final assignment at McDill AFB, Florida as a training manager for the F15 Squadron.

I retired from the USAF in August of 1993, Time served 20 years and 12 days.

I am now a DAV and a FREEPER ,
with four kids, 10 grandkids with number 11 due in November.

After lurking for about a year I joined FR in October 1998.

I have attended most of the major FR Rallies and functions in the DC area
and spent lots of hours doing the walk in front of the White House with
the DC Chapter. Also I have led several FREEPS in the SW Virginia area.

I am extremely grateful to be an American citizen.
I am proud of my service in the US Military.
I have been honored to serve with my fellow vets.

"I'm" not addicted - I can leave the Canteen any time I want, but I'm not sure about the rest of y'all! hehehehehe (I didn't write this, but it sure is accurate of me and so many others here, and you know who you are!)

 

I don't want to do the dishes,
I don't want to do the wash,
I sprinkled clothes a week ago
And now my iron is lost!

I don't wanna clean the pots,
I don't wanna rattle pans,
I wanna read my e-mail,
And chat with all my friends!

The table needs some dusting
and the floor could sure be mopped,

The closets are so full

They could sprinkle fairy dust

And I'd have no dirty clothes.

I must cook that meat that's graying

My husband needs a flea bath,
The dog needs some attention...
Oh, the other way around I mean!
My brain is in suspension!

I am running round in circles,
I am getting nothing done,
I keep thinking of the internet,
I'm missing all the fun!

 

I know I'm not addicted
Though I hear that all the time,
But I guess this stuff will have to wait,

CRYSTAL RIVER, Fla. - Ted Williams, the Boston Red Sox revered and sometimes reviled "Splendid Splinter" and baseball's last .400 hitter, has died at age 83.

Williams, who suffered a series of strokes and congestive heart failure in recent years, was taken Friday to Citrus County Memorial Hospital "where he was pronounced deceased," said sheriff's department spokesman Lt. Joe Eckstein.

He underwent open-heart surgery in January 2001 and had a pacemaker inserted in November 2000.

The Hall of Famer, who managed the Texas Rangers when the team moved to Arlington, always wanted to be known as the greatest hitter ever, and his stats backed up the claim.

A two-time MVP who twice won the Triple Crown, Williams hit .344 lifetime with 521 home runs -- despite twice interrupting his career to serve as a Marine Corps pilot in World War II and the Korean War.

He had 145 RBIs as a Red Sox rookie in 1939 and closed out his career -- fittingly -- by hitting a home run at Fenway Park in his final major league at-bat in 1960.

Williams' greatest achievement came in 1941 when he batted .406, getting six hits in a doubleheader on the final day of the season.

Williams contended his eyesight was so keen he could pick up individual stitches on a pitched ball and could see the exact moment his bat connected with it.

He also asserted he could smell the burning wood of his bat when he fouled a ball straight back, just missing solid contact.

Williams was a perfectionist who worked tirelessly at his craft and had no tolerance for those less dedicated. He was single-minded and stubborn, a player who reduced the game to its simplest elements: batter vs. pitcher, one trying to outsmart the other. In those instances, he usually won.

Tall and thin, gaunt almost, Williams hardly possessed the traditional profile of a slugger. Yet he was probably the best hitter of his time -- and one with a chip on his shoulder.

Often involved in feuds both public and private during his career, Williams mellowed later in life.

The best example came in his reaction to an emotional ovation from the crowd at the 1999 All-Star Game at Fenway Park, Williams' longtime playground.

After a roster of Hall of Famers was introduced, Williams rode a golf cart to the pitcher's mound, where he threw out the first ball. Suddenly, he was surrounded by a panorama of stars, past and present, who reacted like a bunch of youngsters crowding their idol for an autograph.

For a long time, they just hovered around him, many with tears in their eyes.

Then, San Diego's Tony Gwynn gently helped a misty-eyed Williams to his feet and steadied him as Williams threw to Carlton Fisk, another Boston star.

The crowd roared.

"Wasn't it great!" Williams said. "I can only describe it as great. It didn't surprise me all that much because I know how these fans are here in Boston. They love this game as much as any players and Boston's lucky to have the faithful Red Sox fans. They're the best."

It wasn't always that way for Williams. Revered as a slugger, he also was remembered for snubbing Fenway fans, refusing to tip his hat when he hit the ultimate walk-off home run in his final at-bat at age 42.
