LOS ANGELES (AP) - A phone threat warning that a plane would strike the city's second-tallest skyscraper prompted a voluntary evacuation that included employees of a company that lost workers in the Sept. 11 attacks.

The call was traced by the FBI and Monday's threat was found to be without merit, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Bosley. Bosley declined to disclose the caller's name.

The Library Tower has a circular top with jagged points, but it is not the buidling in Die Hard.

The Aon Building and the Library Tower are in downtown L.A.

The Fox Plaza building is in Century City (10 miles west of downtown) and also has angular edges on top. Our beloved former president had the penthouse office in the Fox Plaza (Die Hard building) until very recently. Finally gave it up because he could no longer use it.

Nostalgic people might get a laugh out of what happened when he wanted to lease the penthouse in that building as his office. He was roundly criticised for wanting space in a posh building until someone pointed out the GSA charged higher rents for that hideous Federal Building in Westwood!

I don't think that's our possible victim, though - our possible victim is that First Interstate Tower, which is in Downtown LA.

I was told "A plane is supposed to fly into the building, everybody out."

Being the floor captain I am, I suggest you take this opportunity to point out to those 'in charge' on your floor, any problems that occurred during the evacuation you experienced. It is at this moment that people are made aware of problems that desperately need to be addressed.

Stay safe, stay strong.

I'm gonna be blunt. It was everyman for himself.

It wasn't officially evacuated because the "threat" was unconfirmed, at least that is what I am told today. So leaving the building was optional. Everyone was leaving as far as I could tell, but no one came over the loud speaker and announced to the building to get the hell out.

I noticed cops all over down town as I peeled out of the parking lot. I had no idea if they evacuated all of down town or what, although I did see people running away and out of the building.

Anyway....just glad it is over.

LIFE! He/she should get LIFE! This is not a joking matter. Someone in the process of evacuating that building might have had a heart attack or fallen or whatever and this jackass would have been responsible. It's time people suffer the consequences of their irresponsible actions. It's time to stop playing patsy with these so called human beings. No human being puts a fright on another human being like that. So yes, in my humble opinion he/she should get life if caught.

When?

(You could have made Freeper stardom if you had posted this earlier.) ;-)

You know, your statement still raises the question of when this occurred. The 3 media reports I am looking at all are vague, issued this morning, don't say exactly even what day this happened. They seem to imply this was yesterday. When was it?

Feel free to fill us in, thanks.

Where would we be if the media grows cold on reporting real news about potential terror attacks? Only FR to resort to.

Thanks you for taking the time to report what you saw, it has to be terrifying to think one is in the gray zone of uncertainty fleeing a possible attack like the WTC. My sympathies.

Please also understand how hugely meaningful it is to examine the distastful details of what just occured -- while in that netherzone you have just seen a closeup gimpse of how all the emergency preparations have tried to do a better job than 9-11-01. How did they do?

I have my doubts that much has changed if it is true that everyone was informed but then let to voluntarily fend for themselves. Not very reassuring, I would guess.

Yes, I concur. Even if they had only unconfirmed reports, better to treat it as real than to let it be real and not have everyone out. The fact that they left it voluntary should be rightly criticized. It should have been, "Everyone out of the building, according to orderly evacuation procedures, now," over the entire sound system. The next time they might not be so lucky.

Preparedness is the key to survival.

Thanks, I agree. A larger case can be made about the whole country's ability to respond from this incident I believe. And the conclusion is we do not have a coordinated Homeland Security, yet.

Were you a boy scout? (just kidding. I wasn't.)

Honestly, I told Jim in a FRmail, but I didn't know if there was a reason it wasn't reported. I called AnnaZ on the way home driving, I was totally freaked out.

I didn't post about it because I thought there may be some reason why there was no mention of it in the news.

The odd thing about the mess is that no one from the building told our office. Someone had gone down to get the mail and noticed people leaving and inquired. Finally a call was made to an office member at about 12:30pm telling us what had happened and giving us the option to leave. He responded that we had long left. I left here at around 11:15am.

The event happened yesterday morning. I was shocked it wasn't on the news. I had all the information I need to get the hell out of the building and didn't stcik around for specifics.

The memo that the building distributed this morning said that the FBI called the building about an "Aerial" threat. The LAPD confirmed a threat was made, however they could not confirm the threat. (I add: what the hell confirmation is required? Do they wait til something is gunning straight for the damned building?) Because they could not confirm the person making the threat or providing the threat info, the building wasn't officially evacuated.

I think everyone was out of here, personally.

I agree about unconfirmed threats. I would much rather make up my mind about staying or going.

If you think about it, most people involved in the "Terrorist Enterprise" are shady to begin with, I mean do they need to confirm that the threat came from a real, legitimate terrorist?

I forgot to add that the FAA was on hightened alert yesterday on account of this and no planes were reported missing, so that may have been another reason they didn't think anyone was going to fly into the building.

They should know better than scaring people like this. I don't think the terrorists are gonna do the same thing they did on 9/11. Its not gonna be that easy for them to do it this time. When they do attack it will be a complete surprise. More than likely it will be a bomb. But thats just my opinion.

You are right, of course. Why, it could even be something surprising like an intentional AIDS epidemic as ABCnews speculates now.

Remember the story yesterday about two "suspicious men" dropping something off the Sunshine Skyway Bridge in Tampa? I just got an email alert from BayNews9 that the man who called it in was arrested for filing a "false report".

Why in the world do people think this is funny to do? Are they just total idiots? Do they have nothing better to do than shut down businesses and towns with their childish pranks? I say the next time someone does something like this, the DA ought to let the public at him/her. That'll stop this crap.

I want to tell you something. Come closer....I want to whisper it in your ear.

You are a most endeared person here at FR. Losing you would have been unbearable. Important stuff is discussed...rallied...and implemented here. We need you alive...breathing....and always strong. If anything ever happens to you because of the negligence of any self appointed....self important dweeb....I will come for them.

Now gently, as is your style, print this out....make copies....send them to your local officials......and tell them...FP...along with thousands of our brethren.......are watching the watchers.
