LOS ANGELES (AP) - A phone threat warning that a plane would strike the city's second-tallest skyscraper prompted a voluntary evacuation that included employees of a company that lost workers in the Sept. 11 attacks.

The call was traced by the FBI and Monday's threat was found to be without merit, said FBI spokeswoman Laura Bosley. Bosley declined to disclose the caller's name.

Who would ...?

Someone who didn't want to go to work and was out of sick leave. Very serious consequences - publicly known - need to follow!

Finally, a report on this. I work in that building. Boy was that horrifying. I was told "A plane is supposed to fly into the building, everybody out."

Not a fun day for me.

At least they got everyone out. They didn't try any of that 'Stay at your posts' BS like what happened with that false threat in Chicago where the executives got out but they didn't bother to evacuate the entire building.

Looks like some moron who wants an early start on his 4th of July weekend. Terrorists don't like to give warnings. Whoever is responsible for this prank should be locked up for 10 years.

Well, I didn't know if it was mandatory evacuation or not, at the time, it looked to me like everyone was running away. The memo I have this morning says that it was up to the companies to let people go home.

All I heard was "Plane" "Fly" "Into" "Building" and I was on the 110 heading AWAY from down town.

I am glad you remained safe and sound! I was all over LA all day yesterday. I live in area and was taking college roommate (1969-73) all over town, sightseeing/touring/shopping. I wasn't even thinking about terrorism yesterday. The traffic was horrible, but moving.

Stay safe.

Is the Aon Center that building seen in every movie of LA (I think it was the building in the 1st Die Hard). The one with the circular top with jagged points coming off of it?

No, that one is called the Library Tower. The Aon Building is the 64 story black building at the cornier or Wilshire Blvd. and Sixth Street. It used to called First Interstate Tower, then Wells Fargo Tower, and now Aon Center.

You posted, Whoever is responsible for this prank should be locked up for 10 years.

John Ashcroft with some of the crank/prank stuff that was done after 9/11 has classified any act like this as an act of terrorism. The person committing this act of terrorism would be treated as a terrorist.

Besides going to jail if caught, this person should lose everything they own to repay the city and companies for the money this cost them. Then that clymer should have to work 24/7 for about 20 years with no pay to repay the $'s he/she/it caused.

Like the punk who was sending white powder envelopes around after the anthrax scare? Circle the wagons and lock these losers up. We don't need it.

Yeah, it doesn't do you a whole lot of good to have a job if your dead.

Here is the Aon Center. It's an old picture, when it was still the First Interstate building.

We had a couple of white powder scares up here in the wine country, and our liberal DA's office was ready to let the spreaders walk free.

A bunch of us started screaming and said, fine them for the actual costs of the emergency calls to determine if it was anthrax and to throw the book at them. So those cases are being handled as they should be. At least we will get the costs of the calls out of their hides. One person has been fired from her job (she admitted to her little prank). Her employer was willing to forgive and forget until they were told to forget doing business with the rest of us.

Thanks for the website! Here's a pic of the Library tower, 1000' tall and the tallest west of the Mississippi.

You are correct, it is the Fox building and is not near Downtown LA, it is in Century City near Beverly Hills.
