Prayer requested (Update at post # 45)

I never thought my first thread would be a request for prayer but here goes.

My ex-husband has chronic lymphocitic leukemia which we dealt with when we were married and he is again dealing with.

For the last few months he's been suffering from a chronic sinus infection (has even had the surgery to open up the drainage passages). Needless to say, the doctor's have prescribed antibiotic after antibiotic. He'd do better for a few days and then it would come back full force.

Today, he was told by his oncologist he is completely antibiotic resistant. If he should contract pneumonia (as he has in the past) or if he should contract a staph infection from a scrape (as he has in the past, which almost resulted in his arm being amputated on 2 separate occasions) he's out of luck.

While he's in no immediate danger, one never knows when something is going to happen with CLL.

I regret my rambling on this. Please pray for Don Smith and pray his oncologist can come up with an idea of what to do.

Check again with the oncologist on what s/he meant by "antibiotic resistant". People cannot become antibiotic resistant -- only specific bacteria can. If the bacteria causing the sinus infection is completely resistant, then it would be big trouble if THAT infection spread to another part of his body, but it wouldn't mean anything as far as a new and different infection was concerned. On the other hand, some people do develop serious allergies to whole classes of antibiotics, often as a result of extensive use, and if your husband has developed allergies to multiple classes of antibiotics, that would have broader ramifications.

Prayer for your ex-husband. I have a few ideas, although he needs to consult with someone who knows more that I do to see whether or not this will interfere with his treatment. 1) Garlic is a fantastic immune bulider. I just take a clove with juice. 2) I don't know much about colloidal silver, but do a google search on it--there's plenty of info out there. 3) About 3 years ago, I picked up a terrible infection of mono. I was sick for quite a bit after that until I stumbled across a product called Immunocal. This is the stuff that Celine Dion's husband took when he had cancer. Once again, there's a ton of info out there on it. 4) Make sure he is taking plenty of vitamin C as well as a good quality Multi-vitamin (not anything like Centrum, okay?). 5) There's plenty of stuff out there on the internet, some of it's quackery, but some of it is really useful.

Not enough doctors know about nutrition, vitamins, etc.....part of the reason for that is that there have been so many advances over the past few years that it's difficult to keep up and part of it is just malaise on the part or many doctors. I know b/c I've stumbled across several of them. But there are doctors out there that recognize the value in the combination of Western Medicine and Holistic Medicine.

Aggie Mama, thank you for the information. He's already taking colloidal silver as well as numerous vitamins. I'll investigate the Immunocal.

His oncologist is wonderful! The last time Don had pneumonia, his Doctor told him he hadn't brought him this far in order to see him die. His Doctor also enrolled him in 1998 in a study for a new treatment that was being tested on patients with CLL. Our insurance finally agreed to pay for 4 of the treatments and the remaining 4 were paid for by his oncologist. I believe Don has been blessed with the oncologist he has.

Heavenly Father, You created us from nothing. You know each of us intimately, and only You can effect change. Father, I ask that You supercharge this beloved husband's immune system to fight off any infections, and alter his biochemistry so that if they are needed, antibiotics will work for him. Give his physicians all the skill and knowledge they need to adequately treat this dear man. In Jesus' name I ask these things...Amen!
