Greenfield - A man who tried to rob a Greenfield gun shop at knifepoint Thursday afternoon was shot in the chest by the shop owner, police said.

The victim, identified only as a 57-year-old Greenfield man, was taken to Froedtert Memorial Lutheran Hospital in Wauwatosa, according to police.

Police have yet to interview the victim because the shooting left him unconscious, Detective Sgt. Paul Schlecht said.

Schlecht said later Thursday that the man's wound was not life threatening. The man's condition was not available Thursday evening from Froedtert.

Schlecht said the shooting took place at about 3 p.m. inside Buckhorn Guns, one of four businesses located in a plaza in the 2700 block of W. Ramsey Ave.

The parking lot of the plaza was surrounded by yellow police tape Thursday afternoon as police investigated the shooting.

Schlecht said he did not know what the suspect demanded but said there is nothing to indicate the account of the incident that the store owner gave police was not true.

He said the store owner, 44, shot the man once in the chest and that apparently no one else was inside the store when the shooting took place. The store owner was not injured.

Schlecht said the case is being referred to the Milwaukee County district attorney's office, which will review the actions of the suspect and the shop owner. A case review could happen today, he said.

Yeah, this genius may have cased the store and seen a sign saying that loaded guns weren't allowed in the store.......

Man shot during robbery attempt (tried to rob gun store with knife)

My brother married into a family mostly based in Milwaukee.
His father-in-law used to tell him about "the good old days" in Milwaukee when there was
nearly zero crime.
Apparently one thief didn't get the message and pulled a series of robberies in downtown;
the police put a huge advert in the newspaper that basically said "If you know what's
good for you, you'll stop and turn yourself in.".

The thug didn't get the message, pulled a robbery a few days later in which he jumped onto
a table; he was killed after being ventilated by a couple of .38 slugs from some officers.

Ah, those were the good old days...

YOU WIN!!! Funny how things we think are cool at the time can come back to bite us in the buttocks later, isn't it.

A friend of mine and I had my car SURROUNDED while sitting across the street from a local pool hall with the lights off and the engine running while watching for another friend's boyfriend to exit the establishment and head for home (it was his birthday and we were throwing him a REAL surprise party). Someone saw my car with the lights off and the engine running (hey, it was February!) and told the cops that someone was robbing the furniture store that we were parked beside of. I understand completely how a mouse feels right before it is pounced on by the cat!!! I hope to NEVER look down a gun from that particular angle again!! (to add insult to injury and already shaken nerves, my "friend" just couldn't resist telling me after the cops finally left that she sure was glad they didn't search her purse!!! -- you can guess why....).
