The two judges on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals who ruled yesterday that the Pledge of Allegiance is unconstitutional aren't the only folks who have a problem with the Pledge's wording.
Apparently, New York Sen. Hillary Clinton would also like to revise the words that every schoolchild learns to recite in kindergarten.
While the 9th Circuit objected to the phrase "one nation under God," Sen. Clinton reportedly prefers a version of the Pledge that acknowledges America's flaws, one that begins with the words: "I pledge allegiance to the America that can be."
News of Hillary's Pledge preference surfaced last November, when MSNBC "Hardball" host Chris Matthews was explaining why he thought she would make a White House bid:
"Hillary is dying for it," Matthews said during an interview with NBC's Tim Russert. "But she's also miserable right now because of all this patriotic stuff going on. She can't stand it. I remember Hillary. ... She once said, 'I pledge allegiance to the America that can be.'
"What are we, on probation?" Matthews protested. "I mean, when is she - when is she going to lighten up about this country and say 'This is a great place,' instead of her constant complaining?"
Matthews continued:
"This is too much Barbra Streisand complaining about the country. I'm sorry. I'll say it. [Hillary has] got to love this place. And you know who'll win the next presidency, if it's a Democrat, it'll be a Hubert Humphrey-style Democrat who loves this country, who's happy, who's optimistic about the country. If it's another begrudger, another fearmonger, then Democrats don't deserve to win."

"I pledge allegiance to me, the United States of America, and to the government for which I stand, one nation, under me, with liberty and justice for me."

The Hillary Clinton pledge:
I pledge allegiance to the rag of the United States of America that I can burn at any time,
And to the racist, homophobic, sexist republic for which it stands,
One nation in diversity (except for fetuses) under Lenin,
Divisively, with hate-speech codes and justice for all terrorists.

"I pledge allegiance to the America that can be [Mine!!]." I think that's what she really meant.

Excuse me for not putting too much stock in what Chris Matthews reports about what Hillary once said. This looks like NewsMax creating a headline where none exists.

Ah, for the days following 9-11 when NYC (if not most New York citizens)
briefly came to their senses and realized they had elected a person who
had regularly given her blessing to terrorists (the kiss for Arafat's wife,
recommendation to release Puerto Rican nationalists that had showed no compuction at
killing a policeman, in New York IIRC).
Some brave FDNY and NYPD had the sense to even boo this harpy in public.
Where are these momentarily sane people now?
Sadly, these heroes have begun their regression into their former selves:
liberal Democrats of New York...that will eventually elect this...thing...to the White House.
Well, just as I said when SOME families and friends of 9-11 victims started lining up
to the trough of Federal money...the goodwill that New York earned in blood on 9-11
is being rapidly depleted...

Monthly leaps in IT technology will make it a nightmare whomever runs in 2004 and thereafter. It will soon be possible to access and display in minutes every piece of film and video a politican ever made. I can't WAIT to see what floods the net about Hillary when she decides to run.
