NBC "Today Show" host Katie Couric wasted no time slandering author Ann Coulter during a Wednesday morning interview about her new book, "Slander: Liberal Lies About the American Right," by introducing the renowned conservative legal scholar as a "right-wing tele-bimbo."
"You've been called everything from a pundit extraordinaire to a right-wing tele-bimbo," began Couric, setting the stage for the contentious encounter.
Within the first few sentences of their exchange, Couric broached the topic of Coulter's recent comparison of her to Hitler's Nazi paramour.
COURIC: I have to bring up a section of the book where you talk specifically about me. And this is not where you call me the "Eva Braun of liberalism," which I'll ask you about.
COULTER: The "affable" (Eva Braun of liberalism).
COURIC: Thanks, that makes me feel so much better. (End of Excerpt)
The encounter grew heated when Couric accused Coulter of taking her description of President Reagan as "an airhead" out of context, saying she was merely quoting Reagan biographer Edmund Morris.
COURIC: You used me as an example of liberal bias against Ronald Reagan and I'm just curious as to why you took it so out of context?
COULTER: Well, I don't think I did. You're taking it out of context.
COURIC: No.....
COULTER: What I said, was - which is true - that the "Today Show" opened, I believe that it was three days in a row, with the announcement, "Ronald Reagan was an airhead. That's the conclusion of this newbook by Edmund Morris." When Edmund Morris came on with you he described that as a grossly unfair characterization of his point. (End of Excerpt)
Couric proceeded to read the direct quote from Morris' book, which Coulter then put in context, explaining that the observation was made after Morris' initial encounter with Reagan "and that the entire course of the rest of his book was contradicting that."
The exchange grew heated once again:
COULTER: So for the "Today Show" to be opening three days in a row (with) "Ronald Reagan was an airhead," I'm sorry, that's dishonest.
COURIC: And also, just for your information, it was just one day.
COULTER: No, you said it one day. Matt Lauer said it another day.
COURIC: No, it was just one day and we'll get the transcript for you. But anyway....
COULTER: ...By the way, my book is not only solely not about this quote. It is not solely about the "Today Show."
COURIC: Well, Let's move on then.
COULTER: Over Ronald Reagan's (Crosstalk)......
COURIC: Let's just talk about the religious right, actually, since I'm conducting this interview. (End of Excerpt)
The "Today Show" diva turned to topics like Rev. Jerry Falwell's controversial comments in the wake of 9-11, and made repeated references to Coulter getting "fired" from NationalReviewOnline for her own controversial 9-11 commentary.
"That also isn't quite true," Coulter fired back. "I mean, I write a syndicated column. I write for Human Events. That's the newspaper that hired me. People buy the syndicated column. (NRO) dropped the column."
At the end of the showdown, both the perpetually smiling Couric and the irrepressible Coulter were still standing.
"Well, Ann Coulter, it's always interesting to talk to you to say the least," Couric concluded.
Couric is another good reason not to own a TV.
Nevertheless, Coulter may have a point, just based on the appearances of Couric and Eva Braun alone:
I wasn't a fan of that show, but I loved the Smelly Cat episode. If it's on, my kids will call to tell so I don't miss it.
The next verse of the song is the liberal anthem:
(Smelly cat, smelly cat,) "It's not your fault."
Dang Katie hit Ann with all her big sticks and it didn't hurt... I think they bounced back and hit Katie!
Katie had all the power in this interview (her show, her set, her questions...) and didn't come close to being able to make Ann look bad. Indeed it was obvious that Katie was trying to do just that.
At the end, I thought I saw a little girl about to cry (behind Katie's smile).
Actually, FNC showed excerpts from the show and I must tell you that Little Miss Katie Colon must have pasted on a fake smile because I swear to you, if looks could kill??? Ann C. would be dead.
Regardless of what Ann looks like, she is a hell of a lot smarter than that perky little twit who loves to put us down and tell us how to live our lives.
Dude.............Uhhhhhh.......
Ummmmmmmmm......
I don't think Ann swings from - you know, that side of the plate, you know?
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
Or....they could do another colonoscopy....;-)
You nailed that, Principled. "It's my interview, you know...." WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!
To me, Perky Katie (unwittingly, but I guess that is fitting) PROVED Ann's whole premise. She was just too stupid (and filled with liberal venom) to notice what she was doing.
Also, how long was this segment? Five minutes? If Perky Katie is so right and so smart, I would like to see her debate Ann in a format that provides the time to actually debate the issues, not provides total control to Ms. Couric and act like she accomplished something.
Actually, it seems to me Coulter gets TV gigs not so much for her looks (which are okay but debatable - she's too skinny for my taste), or her brains (again, okay as you said), but for her attitude, which is what makes or breaks most talking heads on the opinion shows. She's a peppery controversialist who won't back down, that makes for good ratings on these shows, hence she gets invited back.

Alan Commie kept derailing her when she tried to answer that. She had to keep restarting her answer about this because Commie wouldn't wait for her to finish. What she said was that no conservative had ever said anything about other people's looks posing as real news, instead of opinion pieces. She refered to news items about Katherine Harris by libs that insulted her looks.
Having successfully reversed the circuits of Dr. Peabody's wayback machine in order to check the accuracy of your prediction, I find you were correct. You'll be happy to know the operation was/will be a success.
Hell, I spent a couple of decades in Rochester in only 4 years!
