ITHACA -- They sang, they danced, they played cello and the bongos in a true alternative graduation ceremony. But the multi-talented seniors at the Alternative Community School also celebrated their commitment to justice, equity and compassion at commencement Monday night.

FYI: the Pennsylvania Fraternal Order of Police has noted this outrage on their web site:

AND SO IT CONTINUES - ANOTHER OUTRAGE! On Monday, June 24, 2002, the Alternative Community School in Ithaca NY, began their commencement ceremony with a message from Cop Killer Mumia Abu Jamal. Read the article as published in the Ithaca Journal, Ithaca NY, on 06/25/02

Has the Ithaca Journal ever acknowledged its role as promoter of the City of Evil image for Ithaca?

Do they ever see these threads?

Ithaca is the City of Evil.

And the Ithaca Journal and the school board have yet to respond to my letter of outrage. Maybe I should use recycled paper and print it in crayon. I want to see the resignation of the "Dr." Lehman and hear his public apology. I am not going to let this go.

No sign of Huggy's (or anyone's) letter on this topic in today's Ithaca Journal.

There is, however, a "puff piece" on the school and how the "eviile" NYS government threatens the school's "dedication to social justice and multiculturalism" by seeking to impose--gasp--academic standards on this festering cop-killer-loving hippie factory:

...if we are really concerned about social justice, we need to look at the larger picture of New York state, schools where they don't have the resources...There are huge numbers of our children who cannot read and write. We are going to go through some horrible times, with large numbers of children dropping out of school and with the distance between the haves and have-nots increasing.

Meanwhile, ISIS, the e-zine of "the fascist underground in ithaca" (as one local lefty put it)did have the courage to attack this sick spectacle that is the Alternative Community School:

Guest speakers at commencement ceremonies are a good indicator of what track any particular institution is on. When it came to the ACS graduation, it wouldn't have surprised me if they had someone like anti-capitalist Michael Moore (who might have been able to find an opening in his tour to promote his new book, but probably would have charged too much). However, they took it to a whole new level by playing a message from cop-killer, Mumia Abu-Jamal...Aren't you glad your tax dollars are spent to foster such an "enlightened" educational atmosphere?

and

That childish demand of saying "Sorry" and abolishing bad behavior has become derigueur in our society. And even if the perpetrator of nastiness does not say it themself, there is a wide coalition of people who are ready to jump in and apologize for them....Kill a police officer in cold blood? He's a great candidate for giving commencement addresses to high school graduates!

And

I see that the Alternative Community School's Graduation featured a taped speech by convicted cop killer Mumia Abu-Jamal. Three thoughts pop immediately to mind (well, four, actually, but one is full of too many unprintable words):
The Journal refers to Abu-Jamal as a "radio journalist." That's a little like describing O.J. Simpson as a "former football player," Charles Manson as a "songwriter," or Adolph Hitler as an "author."
Will the staff of ACS try to "book" Osama Bin Laden to speak to grads next year? Perhaps by satellite telephone?
This is your tax dollars at work.

...or Gary Condit as a member of the House Intelligence Committee, or Hillary Clinton as a former "First" "Lady"...

I sent an e mail to one of their 'social studies teachers' and asked when they would have Charles Manson to speak? Or maybe the black thugs who were running rampant at the Seattle mardi gras last year when they killed the one white kid.
No reply of course.
Another cop was killed with his own gun here last week execution style, by a freak running around with no clothes on.
But, because of the so-called schools mentality that is epidemic these days, the cops are damned if they do and damned if they do (not a typo)
My personal opinion is I'd like to see public hangings brought back.

Still no letters in the Journal about this scandal. Apparently, the Journal is saving its "valuable" editorial page space for insightful letters like this:

Pledge allegiance to the Banana Republic

In the '60s and '70s, a lot of youths refused to say the pledge in school.
I believe it was because of the Vietnam War. Nothing the court does surprises me after they usurped the right of people to vote and of congress to settle close elections. The court installed the president, by their actions. I couldn't believe this could happen in the United States of America. We were like some banana republic.
Well, here we are with the social security surplus gone and congress had to raise the ceiling on the national debt so we could get social security checks next week. We're at war? Billions are spent with no accounting where it went, giant companies have stolen money from share holders and gone bankrupt. A lot of innocent people have been killed; the country is in chaos. The media and the White House staff misquote George W. Bush and Colin Powell has to smooth things over. The Supreme Court really has no credibility. Anyone who wants to call God is free to do it. What are they going to do, arrest you?

Ithaca is the City of Evil.

The IJ doesn't publish anonymous letters. I assume the webmaster was still hungover--uh, I mean filled with patriotic fervor--from yesterday and forget to put the name in.

At the risk of being obtuse, do you mean the Ithaca Journal has not published a single letter about the cop-killer celebration?

Hmmm, it's got that sixth-grade, I-just-discovered-that-the-world-isn't-always-fair feel to it. It's probably from a Cornell/Ithaca College faculty member...

No, there was that single letter from David Rossiter you and I discussed back on June 27.

But that's it so far, despite several FREEPERS having indicated that they sent, or were going to send, in letters.
