According to Joe Hadenuf: Official Free Republic Position Parallels GOP On Immigration. No Big Deal
6/23/02 | Joe Hadenuf

Posted on 06/23/2002 12:52:24 PM PDT by Joe Hadenuf

Last night during a conversation/debate between myself and the leader/owner of the Free Republic, Jim Robinson, a rather stunning revelation was brought forth. I asked Mr. Robinson, which Republicans were vocally backing, and supporting Tancredo in his fight for our sovereignty? After some delay, Jim answered, “I have no idea. Immigration is not a big concern of mine.”

This is from the man that runs the most well known, and respected, political conservative internet forum in the United States? And Mr. Robinson resides in California?

Below is the exchange

Conservatives, Cut Bush Slack The Chicago Sun-Times | June 22, 2002 | Thomas Roeser

To: Jim Robinson

#939: Oh, so the Republicans are fighting for our sovereignty? Besides Tancredo, which Republicans are these Jim? If you could be specific.

#1034: Which ones are not ?

#1056: You never answered my question Jim.

Since you failed to answer my question, I will go first.

Given thirty years of this open border, immigration "free for all" that has resulted in many millions entering our nation illegally, I believe there are very few Republicans, or anyone else in DC, besides Tancredo, that are visibly and vocally fighting for our national sovereignty.

Now would you care to tell me which Republicans are standing with Tancredo and voicing outrage against this titanic, never ending invasion of illegal aliens?

At first I as was stunned, angry, and felt let down. Then after some thought I wasn’t too surprised.

Looking back at all the hundreds of immigration threads where many were deleted, disappeared and sent to the cornfield, I guess I am not too surprised. However, given the gravity and danger this country faces regarding this out of control, titanic immigration issue, I am still outraged, disheartened and saddened by Mr. Robinson’s response. Thread after thread Freepers have displayed genuine outrage and honest concern regarding this issue. And the outrage and insanity regarding this issue goes far beyond the Free Republic.

It’s escalated to the point now where many of our major cities in this country, such as Chicago, have now approved the use of identification cards, issued by Mexican consulates that will give illegal aliens access to financial and public services and more, as our so-called leaders stand treasonously silent, as our sovereignty is slowly dismantled.

This massive invasion of millions of illegal aliens has changed the face of many of our once great cities, from California to Illinois, to Georgia, to Tennessee, to Texas etc etc.

They are crowding our already over crowded classrooms, voting in our elections, choking off our social services, driving down the wages, while driving up our taxes, filling our jails, standing room only in many big city emergency rooms, etc, etc, etc. I personally know of six American citizens that have become victims of illegal alien crime, from having family members slaughtered on our highways by drunk driving illegal aliens, to stabbings, robberies and common burglaries.

And just recently, another young Deputy Sheriff was shot through the face and killed in California by an illegal alien, that has again fled back to the safety of Mexico. It has now been learned that this individual has already been deported three times, each time he has returned and committed more crimes in our country, leaving American victims in his wake, and each time he fled back to the safety of Mexico.

There are many forms of terrorism, and this continued invasion of millions upon millions is one form. And it's my opinion that it’s one of the most dangerous, most threatening issues facing America today. Even today as we speak, our federal government continues to allow in almost 8000 Middle Eastern men a month on visas. It is my opinion that this legal and illegal “immigration free for all” must be, stopped, extremely limited, and reformed immediately!

Again, I am extremely saddened and distressed by Mr. Robinson's response and lack of concern regarding this issue.

We are all conservatives or libertarians. For some of us, the main issue is abortion, for others, it is taxes, for others it is gun rights, and for others it is immigration.

We also disagree over the methods that should be employed in order to acheive our goals.

Certain conservatives can't live by this. If Rush doesn't focus on gun control one day, some freepers will bitch and moan that if he was a true conservative he would know what the pressing issue of the day is.

Now, JimRob reveals that certain conservative issues are more important to him than immigration.

What do you do? Whine like a wussy-boy. "Oh, poor me. FreeRepublic is supposed to be the leading conservative site, but JimRob cares more aobut taxes than immigration."

If you live by the sword you'll die by the sword.

This country was born and grown on immigration.

It will will die by it sooner rather than later.

Whenever that happens, just let me know the IP address, or create a handy hyperlink, lest the keyboard runs out of keystrokes. ;) Wonder if there's really any limit to the length of a domain name ...

"We can argue about this stuff until doomsday, but it's not going to do us any good as long as the Democrats hold the power."

Bob Dornan lost his seat in Congress, because 1,000 illegal aliens committed vote fraud on behalf of Loretta Sanchez.

Why do you think Al Gore had the INS pulling out all the stops to churn out as many new citizens as they could during the Clinton years?

How do you think Ashcroft lost his seat in Congress?

Our fellow Freeper, Marine Inspector, believes that it's probable another 2 million illegal aliens entered this country, so far, this year.

If we don't put an end to this invasion, there goes your Republican majority in the Senate and House of Representatives unless they out-pander the Democrats. If the Republican Party governs according to the Democratic Party's platform, does it matter who's in charge?

"We can't reach and win voters to the conservative side of the issues, even with your great website Jim, as fast as liberals/socialists can enter the country illegally."

Which really should be the last word in this debate.

Its not complicated. Immigration is the linch pin for all other 'conservative' issues, and guess what - most modern immigrants could not care less for conservative issues.

Even as the country is circling the bowl for the final time many 'conservatives' no doubt will will still be wondering what hit them.

I respectfully point out to you that conservatives do not advocate hopelessness and political violence. If anyone really believes that the use of the ballot box is passé, then they really have no business here at FR.

Wolfe does not advocate "hopelessness". Have you ever read anything she's written?

Given your proscription of who has business here at FR, I guess Thomas Jefferson and Patrick Henry (to name two) would have had no business here either.

It all started with the 13th, and the requirement to ratify an amendment as part of readmission (even though it was claimed they never left). Until then - the states simply ratified the Constitution, and then pursued ratification of outstanding amendments.

Next came the 14th - which was never ratified properly (the Confederated states which ratified the 13th and refused to ratify the 14th were deemed not to be states, and reconstruction governments were unconstitutionally instituted).

The 16th gave the federal government the power to rob the citizens blind. Before they were limited to what the government could do simply by lack of funding. Now robbery is legalized, and socialist policies abound.

The 17th was a result of the odious partisan practice of electing Senators years before their term (not immeditely prior to service) which led to confusion over representation in the Senate. The Confederate Constitution corrected this problem and retained the state representation in the federal Congress, yet with the 17th's passage the interests of the states were no longer protected.

Now the federal behemouth crushes states rights and sovereignty, and the citizens vote for anyone that can dole them a pie of the pork-barrel pie. Immigrants want theirs as well, so the states have no intent on limiting them.

And some still maintain that this is what the founders intended.

Skeeter, I would never expect unanimity of opinion on any forum, but I would have 'bet the farm' that Jim Robinson felt that way about immigration.

We're going to have to keep working on JR. ;^)

Joe, you have an interesting and eye-opening little thread here.

Joe, you done good.

This is a pretty silly basis for a thread. JimRob doesn't set his policy priorities the same way you do, and you are so shocked and saddened that you have to write an article about it? Sheesh.

Personally, I don't put immigration at the top of my list, either. For one thing, it's going to exist for as long as we have the welfare state, so the welfare state is a more fundamental and important target.

As long as we have unrestricted immigration the welfare state will never go away. It will only get stronger as a consequence.

Well that's the way I see it too. The political trends of the last few elections already bear this out. Conservatives can wish all they want about smaller government, more conservative judges, tax cuts, gun rights etc. but it doesn't mean anything when the rapidly expanding immigrant base (legal and illegal), in an already divided electorate, exert their newfound political strength and vote for democrats to take all that away. I really am confounded why this is so hard for some to understand.

It’s not like there is a lack of history to draw on here. CA was once a competitive state for republicans. Now it is a democratic stronghold. AZ is teetering the democrats’ way. Ditto on NM and in Texas we have democratic gubernatorial candidates holding debates in Spanish. At what point is enough, enough? We aren't talking about immigration on the order of 200,000 a year as in prior to 1965. It is now nearly 2,000,000 a year with mass illegal immigration.

It’s also rather sad to see other conservatives suggest that uncontrolled immigration needs to continue because we need their wages to pay for all the DEMOCRAT WELFARE PROGRAMS that "we used to be against". Jeez. One went so far to say that if the illegal immigration spigot was shut off, we as a country would have to consider euthanasia for the elderly. A little over the top don’t you think Nick? I guess reforming those welfare programs and scaling them back is not an option. And of course it would never be an option if the democrats control all levels of government. In fact, that would be a living nightmare.

If anyone is curious about where the present trends in immigration are taking us I suggest checking out the “Center For Immigration Studies” website. It has some real eye opener analysis on this topic.

"I am still outraged, disheartened and saddened by Mr. Robinson’s response."

You need to get a life. Jim Robinson, while owner of the site, is just another poster here, entitled to his own view or lack of opinion.

I think your attack on Mr. Robinson for stating it is an issue that he is not overly concerned about is shallow at best.

The Jim Robinson I have come to know, only through this forum, is more concerned with aligiance to and conformity with our Constitution as written than any one single issue, other than the occupation of the White House by William Jefferson Clinton.

So again, I suggest you take a deep breath and chill. Attacking he man that has invited you into his forum for not being in lock step with your ideology is not a brilliant idea if you wish to stick around and expound on your ideas.

Have a nice day.

if we delete the threads, we delete the issue. So maybe we don't see the issue discussed much here
You can't seriously be claiming that the issue of immigration isn't discussed much here, can you?
