According to Joe Hadenuf: Official Free Republic Position Parallels GOP On Immigration. No Big Deal
6/23/02 | Joe Hadenuf

Posted on 06/23/2002 12:52:24 PM PDT by Joe Hadenuf

Last night during a conversation/debate between myself and the leader/owner of the Free Republic, Jim Robinson, a rather stunning revelation was brought forth. I asked Mr. Robinson, which Republicans were vocally backing, and supporting Tancredo in his fight for our sovereignty? After some delay, Jim answered, “I have no idea. Immigration is not a big concern of mine.”

This is from the man that runs the most well known, and respected, political conservative internet forum in the United States? And Mr. Robinson resides in California?

Below is the exchange

Conservatives, Cut Bush Slack The Chicago Sun-Times | June 22, 2002 | Thomas Roeser

To: Jim Robinson

#939: Oh, so the Republicans are fighting for our sovereignty? Besides Tancredo, which Republicans are these Jim? If you could be specific.

#1034: Which ones are not ?

#1056: You never answered my question Jim.

Since you failed to answer my question, I will go first.

Given thirty years of this open border, immigration "free for all" that has resulted in many millions entering our nation illegally, I believe there are very few Republicans, or anyone else in DC, besides Tancredo, that are visibly and vocally fighting for our national sovereignty.

Now would you care to tell me which Republicans are standing with Tancredo and voicing outrage against this titanic, never ending invasion of illegal aliens?

At first I as was stunned, angry, and felt let down. Then after some thought I wasn’t too surprised.

Looking back at all the hundreds of immigration threads where many were deleted, disappeared and sent to the cornfield, I guess I am not too surprised. However, given the gravity and danger this country faces regarding this out of control, titanic immigration issue, I am still outraged, disheartened and saddened by Mr. Robinson’s response. Thread after thread Freepers have displayed genuine outrage and honest concern regarding this issue. And the outrage and insanity regarding this issue goes far beyond the Free Republic.

It’s escalated to the point now where many of our major cities in this country, such as Chicago, have now approved the use of identification cards, issued by Mexican consulates that will give illegal aliens access to financial and public services and more, as our so-called leaders stand treasonously silent, as our sovereignty is slowly dismantled.

This massive invasion of millions of illegal aliens has changed the face of many of our once great cities, from California to Illinois, to Georgia, to Tennessee, to Texas etc etc.

They are crowding our already over crowded classrooms, voting in our elections, choking off our social services, driving down the wages, while driving up our taxes, filling our jails, standing room only in many big city emergency rooms, etc, etc, etc. I personally know of six American citizens that have become victims of illegal alien crime, from having family members slaughtered on our highways by drunk driving illegal aliens, to stabbings, robberies and common burglaries.

And just recently, another young Deputy Sheriff was shot through the face and killed in California by an illegal alien, that has again fled back to the safety of Mexico. It has now been learned that this individual has already been deported three times, each time he has returned and committed more crimes in our country, leaving American victims in his wake, and each time he fled back to the safety of Mexico.

There are many forms of terrorism, and this continued invasion of millions upon millions is one form. And it's my opinion that it’s one of the most dangerous, most threatening issues facing America today. Even today as we speak, our federal government continues to allow in almost 8000 Middle Eastern men a month on visas. It is my opinion that this legal and illegal “immigration free for all” must be, stopped, extremely limited, and reformed immediately!

Again, I am extremely saddened and distressed by Mr. Robinson's response and lack of concern regarding this issue.

Physicist...

I believe you are using too narrow a view of what Joe had to say originally. Consider the ramifications of his concern, not what he thinks about Robinson. It has sparked debate which is good, seeing an attack on Robinson is near sighted, most of us did not see it that way.

The problem can't lie with me or my views...so perhaps he isn't so great, after all.

Those are your words, not mine. And my views on this issue are not just mine, as there are millions of Amercan citizens with the very same views and feel there is no bigger, or threatening issue facing this nation. Millions of American citizens are more than angry that our leadership stands in total silence regarding this issue.

But thanks for your opinion.

So is breaking the grip that the left has on blacks and other minorites at the polls.

Now that's what I'm saying. You, for one, at least act like you give a damn about this particular issue. Can't say that for a ton of others here. Strip away at least 15% of the black vote and the RATS are totally doomed.

Well said, Dales (even if you are from Piggsburgh).

;-)

They fought for independence from a "foreign" King. They fought for the right to self-government, representation and local control. They won and got it. They established a Constitution and a government based on the rule of law, We still have that same system. We are still a nation of free people who have the power to control government through the ballot box. We vote for and send our representatives to our local, state and federal governments. If you do not like the current government, then you have the right to form a party of like minded people to join you in an effort to vote out those you don't like and replace them with the ones you do. However, if you cannot muster enough people to your way of thinking and your attempt to get your candidates elected fails, you do not have the right to take up arms and start blasting away at people. That is the way of banana republics.

The day of the ballot box has gone.

"America is in that awkward stage. It's too late to work within The System, and too early to shoot the bastards." -Che Guevara

If you cynically believe the use of the ballot box is no longer applicable, then how do you propose changing our government? Wishful thinking? Bullets? Temper tantrums?

>>Does the federal government have constitutional authority to dictate to the states regarding licensing?<<

Article I, section 8:

Congress shall have the power ...To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization

To the extent that States, by granting legal status to persons within the US illegally, tend to undermine Congress's uniform Rule of Naturalization, then, yes-

the federal government does have that authority.

No need for your opinion on the XVII Amendment. This amendment squashed the republic in its entirety.

Whether we want to agree with it or not, the United States of America is now a democracy due to the ratification of this amendment.

"Since JR is not a racist, immigration is not a huge concern of his. Neither is it of mine"

I am a little confused with your reasoning here.Did you intend to imply that everyone who is concerned about illegal immigration is a racist? Since I stated I am concerned about this issue, does that make me a racist? Is everyone who is concerned about border security racist?

Well, I guess I have been called worse things by "better" FReepers.LOL.

respectfully, I'm rather dissapointed to hear that, considering if it weren't for our loose immigration laws, the 9/11 terrorists, might not have had such an easy time of carrying out their plans.

Perhaps if we stopped killing off generation after generation of the unborn there would be enough adults to support those who opted for Social Security and by doing some privatizing of social security as an options, there would be less with need.

With all due respect, I think it unrealistic to suppose that illegals who start out here with no regard for our laws are likely to be productive taxpayers anyway. Quite the contrary. The majority are putting more of a drain on our resources with their automatic access to free health care, education, housing in many cases, food stamp and other welfare benefits. These are the poorest of the poor who seem to have no desire to assimilate into the American culture, but rather to establish Mexican settlements throughout America. The jobs they have are often the lowest paying putting them in the category of those who pay few, if any taxes. Statistically they are among the highest numbers populating our prisons as well, which in addition to the added burden of a large criminal element, once they are convicted and imprisoned, they continue to be a financial burden that we have to support for however many years they are incarcerated.

Consider the ramifications of his concern, not what he thinks about Robinson.

But this isn't a what-should-we-do-about-immigration thread. It's a Jim-doesn't-agree-with-me-about-immigration thread.

Everyone has a hot-button issue, and everyone can find someone he thinks really ought to agree with him about it, but doesn't. Joe's the only one who thought it worthy of a post. His opinions on immigration aren't remarkable, but his presumption is.

Well, I can tell you one way not to go about it. When you are faced with a party that is infested with corrupt liberals and commie loving socialists (the Democrats) and they enjoy the support of nearly half of the voting populace, you do not splinter the one and only opposition party that has the strength to combat them. This will only ensure that the liberals remain in power and that the wholesale destruction of our rights continues on unabated.

Or if we sold machine guns in drug stores, and handguns in vending machines, then people who saw illegal immigrants could just shoot them. So we need to lift all the laws on gun control in order to positively affect this issue.

Hey! I really like this 'adding in a nearly-completely unrelated issue' thing! That was cool!

That's a valid point, but I don't think it means we should look the other way when they get out of line either. I have yet to see anything that would move me to vote for a RAT or keep me from voting altogether.

I do not believe it is the role of FR to take positions. It is up to you and me to formulate our positions. FR provides the forum for discussion or debate.

Like others, I have my "hot button" issues but I do not think it serves anyone to have Free Republic seeking a monolithic position for its members.

We are still a nation of free people who have the power to control government through the ballot box.

We are also a nation of laws and sovereignty. The California people voted on and won Proposition 187. The federal govenment turned around and confiscated our election box and our election. I spend two years helping out with that election only to be told our votes meant nothing as they declared our election unconstitutional.

I ageee on Governing each state, but when an Illegal is IN THIS COUNTRY, each state should report that illegal and immigration should send them packing!

Absolutely. In fact, I think any state that allows acceptance of those phony Mexican ID cards anywhere in said state (including greedy banks, or any county or municipality within the state) should have all federal funding cut immediately. It's a national security issue. Those cards are about as secure as a fake ID you can pick up for $30 at many places in major cities around the country.

BTW, the Free Republic is a fantastic website.
