Hey all!

I need some ideas. One of my best friends is being sworn in as an American on July 4th (she's from Canada and has been here for 25 years.) I'd like to get her something special, something that makes her 'one of us.' LOL. She is already pretty patriotic and has flags and such. So, if you have any ideas, let me know!

I'm already putting togeher a CD of songs with an American/USA theme to play at the 4th of July party...

Too bad we don't have DOSE T-SHIRTS! That'd be a truly American item to give her, imho. :o)

Does she have grandchildren? If so, how about a copy of Lynne Cheney's "America." It's a beautiful book.

How about a replica of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights framed?

Get her a leather bound copy of the Constitution and have it foil stamped with her name and date of citizenship.

Thank you for the great pictures. Here is the address of a good site with patriotic gifts. I ordered a flag and eagle figurine for my son who recently turned 18 and is registering to vote. They have some beautiful music boxes with eagles and flags that play God Bless America.

Have you seen the Swarovski flag pins. There are two, one is around $35 in the shape of a heart, and the flag one is $95. Great for dressing up an outfit, or using to pin a scarf. They are made of Swarovski crystals and you can get them at better jewelry stores.

Two things:
(1) You can contact your congressman and sometimes get a flag that has flown over the US Capitol.

(2) I'd keep it kinda simple, yet meaningful. Get a nice looking glass container and a scoopful of dirt. If possible, try to get the dirt from the site where your friends first entered the country, or from the site where she is taking the oath of citizenship. When I think of this country, I think of the physical aspect of this country. The ground we walk on. The land we labor. The land we love.

OK, maybe it is getting late and maybe that's a little too sappy. But the flag thing would be good.

Had the same thrill from a friend who just never bothered to become a citizen but was always voicing opinions. Finally I talked her into becoming a citizen and personally registered her to vote, made a copy of the registration and gave her a special flag that was decorated with ribbons. Did a special celebration on the day she cast her first vote. Would be fun to have a limo pick you up and ride to the polls with champagne and then go to lunch or whatever for the continued celebration. It's thrilling! Good luck.
