A Redleg is a Field Artilleryman, dates back to the Civil War when Artillerymen wore red spats to distinguish themselves from Infantrymen (white spats). Being from the State of NY (Syracuse area), and not from the city, we actually distinguish the region from where we are. The Albany are is the Capital area, Buffalo is the western tier etc.

LOL! I'm talking to my son on a messenger right now. He is telling me about when he was stationed at Fr. Polk in LA. He had guard duty, but sat down on a fireant hill. They got into his pants, and he jumped up and started throwing off clothing and weapons just as a colonel pulled up at the gate. The officer was ready to read him down, but Doug pulled up his pants, saluted, then pulled his pants off and started swatting ants. The colonel helped him get himself back together.

Too funny - Doug has leaned a valuable southron lesson.
That mistake will not be repeated. Fire ants are the pits.

Fire Ants are AWFUL!!! If there is a fire ant hill, I will find it every time. One time I was helping get the boat loaded onto the trailer and I got into a mess of them. I ran in the lake as fast as I could. I think they wait until they are all on you and then one of them signals them all to bite at one time. THEY ARE NASTY CREATURES!!!!!

Happy birthday to my childhood and adulthood (?) hero. He epitomizes, to me, what all real men should aspire to being. That PLUS I always thought he was too cute to be real....LOL

Thanks for posting this - I enjoyed it greatly!!

I'm not getting any images on your # 100, but with the text, What a GREAT post.

GREAT Thread on Audie Murphy.
First time I saw To Hell and Back was in Junior High School movietime. The school showed a movie about once a month at that time. Some parents wouldn't let their kids see it because of the use of the word "Hell" in the title. Times have sure changed, eh? Now it seems anything goes. Course, that was when Coke came in bottles, and cost 10 cents from the vending machine and a new Chevy cost $3000. Our first house cost less than the sticker price on a modest new car, and the Republicans were in power.

I had SUCH a crush on Audie Murphy! (Of course, the fact that he went into the service just about the time I was being born had nothing to do with it...) What a wonderful tribute to an All-American HERO.

Nice Picture. Love the Thompson SMG.

They're more fun to shoot then they are to carry. There are a couple of other buzzguns I'd carry before picking a Tommy to haul around, but I'll admit to having done it before a couple of times, and I probably will again sometime.

Decisions, decisions....
