ALAN COLMES: Welcome back to HANNITY & COLMES. Coming up, is the game of tag too rough for the playground? Believe it or not, some people say yes, which leads us to ask our "Question of the Day," how many kids are injured playing at school each year? That answer's coming up in just a few minutes.

Atheists' assertion that pumpkins are atheists is just another fine illustration of their silly posturing.

What are you talking about? Atheism simply means without theism -- lacking belief in gods. I'm not aware of any evidence which would suggest that pumpkins believe in any gods and as such that makes them atheists. It's kind of a trivial defintion, however, because it applies to absolutely all pumpkins. Atheist is only a meaningful label when applied to humans, because not every human lacks belief in gods.

You claimed that atheism is a "hatred" of God. That of course begs the question of just which "God" is hated. I am telling you that atheism, since it is simply the abscence of belief in gods, cannot really amount to "hatred" of anything. Your attempt to redefine atheism simply on the basis of a small minority of non-believers seems to be an attempt to reinforce your own belief set with ad hominem.

Maybe there is a solution that will satisfy both sides.

What are you going to do for the Jews, Hindus, Wiccans or Last Thursdayists?

They define themselves by what they DON'T believe in, or what they're against. Look at their little fish with feet. That isn't designed to affirm anything. It is designed to deride, alienate and humiliate in my opinion.

It's satire...and "Darwin" is hardly an atheist god, nor is evolution an atheist idea.

I wanna get one of those procreating fish, but then I like being shocking sometimes.

I've considered a Deuteronomy 21:18-21 shirt. I like being shocking sometimes, and I freely admit it. I just make sure to warn that my shocking behaviour is a personality quirk and not a function of atheism itself.

This same woman was on Michael Medved's show today and an absolutely wonderful lady called in to say that she was an atheist and she had the same attitude about the cross as you.

So refreshing. So rational. It just shows that what someone on this thread said is true, the people who say they're atheists and want every last vestage of Christianity gone, really aren't atheists but anti-Christian bigots.

If the ACLU and other anti-Christian organizations succeed in stripping God from this country, they will be removing the only reason America is a haven for people of the World. Then the tyranny will really begin.

Were metal beams or ruins in the shape of a Star of David, a Hindu symbol, a Wiccan symbol, or a Last Thursdayist symbol found left standing at the WTC site?

If so, they should remain also.

I do not remember any members of these religions (or any others) saying that rubble from the disaster was in the shape of one of their religious symbols.

It's satire...

Defining it doesn't change its' motivation, though arguing about motivation is a dead end.

and "Darwin" is hardly an atheist god, nor is evolution an atheist idea.

This is about as relevant to my point as me explaining the infield fly rule, though I understand your pathological desire to tell everyone what atheism isn't.

Because there is no such thing as an atheist idea. Or would you disagree?

That depends on your definition. An idea had by an atheist could arguably be called an "atheist idea", even if the "idea" is to go out to see a movie. On the other hand, atheism itself is simply a null set, so "atheism" doesn't lend itself to being a basis for ideas per se. It'd be like determining how to style your hair based on hair that you don't have.

Sorry, I mistook you for the person who said that atheism is a "hatred of God".

In the case of doorknobs and pumpkins being atheists, I don't see that as a silly concept, unless you wish to asser that there are theist doorknobs and pumpkins somewhere out there. Atheism is a descriptor for a lack of a property and something that is incapable of holding said property (a doorknob can't be a theist) is certainly going to qualify. In those cases, however, it's a trivial definition -- kind of like claiming that a doorknob that isn't growing hair is "bald".

> I haven't redefined atheism at all. In fact, I espouse your definition whole heartedly. If atheists wish to define themselves in terms of a characteristic they share with pumpkins and doorknobs, why not indulge them in their silly posturing?

What does >this< mean? Clarify.

I think that it means that it is somehow silly to suggest that we have something in common with pumpkins and doorknobs. You know, kind of like how it is silly to mention that both atheists and doorknobs are comprised at the most basic level of protons, neutrons and electrons.

> What do you base your morality on?

A proper philosophy: Objectivism. From that, the following flow... Bill Clinton routinely mentioned God. He must be better than us atheist Repubicans in your eyes. In my freeper carreer, I've never heard him criticized as a Christian charlitan. From that, I've concluded that there is nothing incompatible with being a Christian who advocates national health care.
