You seem to have the correct grasp on this; unfortunately, this is EXACTLY what would happen.

Hey, it worked in Algeria in the 1950s. Hamas, Hezbollah, Al Qaida are running all their plays straight out of the "Algerian Independence" playbook. It sickens me that the Arabists in our State department are so blind to these facts, and that they are hamstringing President Bush....

Re: 187, oh definitely! Just more sensational journalism when instead we have a desperate situation that affects all of us. I'm sick of hearing those whiney reporters crying about why they didn't get this or that piece of information from the police chief in SLC. Honestly, I swear they just cover these stories in depth because they're easy stories, and the reporters don't have to learn any history and actually think about things.

The first piece of land they ought to take would be to "take out" Arafat's compound, lock stock and barrel - Israel hasn't unloaded any of their "hardware" yet on the Palestinians, but this may change soon!

No, we've got Leahy, Kennedy, Daschle, Clinton... entrenched and near impossible to get out of office.

Now imagine that we not only have to deal with the entrenched ones, but we have to go kiss the ass of the Green Party, the Libertarian Party, and the Communist Party every time a SERIOUS decision has to be made.

"Consensus" is way overrated sometimes.

How would it be done if Jordan put troops on the border and said "no"?

Very easily. If Israel said to the Arab neighbours "you have 72 hours to pick up your trash from our doorstep or face an all-out attack - in effect, total war", and showed that they would make good on their promise, believe me the palies would be gone like a bad dream. And the various Arab leaders would have a crisis change of underwear.

>>WTF is it going to take for Israel to finally strike back HARD.<<

Maybe if GWB would quit trying to out-Jimmy-Carter Jimmy Carter, shut his yap, and get out of the way.

What if Israel simply destroyed everything and killed them all?

If she did, then I think that Iran, Iraq, and Syria would join forces and try to exterminate Israel. We have the makings of World War III simmering along here.... Which probably explains why George W. Bush is itching to get "proactive" WRT Saddam Hussein, 'cause Saddam's the guy with the "big guns" (WMD). But of course, "enlightened world opinion" and our State Department are holding him back.

A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.

You just described most politicians. That's why people inherently don't trust the government.

x42 and Arafat...it's a wonder these two didn't drown in bull@#$% whenever they got together.

How could pathological liars negotiate anything?

I'm not sure. But there's this option: Cut a chunk out of Alaska and stick them there. Alaska is big and almost empty.

The Democrats and environmentalists claim the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is a beautiful, pristine place. Perhaps we could offer them an area the size of the claimed Palestinian territory. The landscape isn't much different, albeit slightly colder. Their new neighbors will love them too. The Alaskan brown bears and polar bears are excellent prospects as neighbors.

Kahane? C'mon, I met him several times and heard him speak to small groups as well as crowds. He was a nutcase.

That said, I'm beginning to thing an expulsion of the Palestinians (as opposed to the Arab citizens of Israel who have generally not been involved in any of this) is one of Israel's few options at this point. While I have always thought the settlements in the occupied territories horribly misguided and a provocation, it now seems that, whatever the reasons, the Palestinians are interested in pushing the Jews into the sea rather than simply having their own state. A year ago, perhaps even six months ago, I would have supported a Palestinian state that dismantled all of the settlements outside the pre-1967 borders. Now, I think at the very least the Israelis should find defensible borders and make them the boundry, moving all Palestinians (other than Israeli citizens) out of those areas and sending them wherever will have them. If no one wants them, then send them in very small groups to wilderness places they can colonize.

Sounds like a good plan to me. I cannot imagine living like the Israelis do everyday. Never knowing when a bomb will go off. I think Israel should do whatever is necessary to keep their citizens safe.

BTW, do you think anyone will notice that in post 12 you basically are saying you disagree with one of Dubya's positions?

Nah. Easier to just call you a 'bot. ;-)

It is obvious to see how happy and relaxed that Arafat felt in the presence of the First Felon, makes me want to puke

it now seems that, whatever the reasons, the Palestinians are interested in pushing the Jews into the sea rather than simply having their own state.

This has always been the case. It is even in the "palestinian constitution", which is an old document and available from the PA itself. While Arafat has made public noises to minimize and explain it away to the western press, it has never been removed, and it has been reinforced and affirmed time and again for Arab consumption.

I would have supported a Palestinian state that dismantled all of the settlements outside the pre-1967 borders

That is plain stupid. The real idiocy is that the Arabs were allowed to place the "palestinians", who are basically the worst criminals thrown out of the Arab nations by those same nations, in territory that Israel conquered from them in a war of self-defense. That is a travesty worthy of nuking every Arab capital on the map, but unfortunately it would lead to Israeli casualties from fallout.

Israeli police and bomb disposal experts work at the scene of a suicide bombing in Jerusalem, Wednesday June 19, 2002. A suicide bomber jumped out of a car, dashed past two policemen and ran to a bus stop before blowing himself up and killing at least six people. More than 35 people were wounded, many critically. If I was that ugly, I'd probably want to kill myself too.

Heh heh, someone should've told him that the flattop is so '80s...he'll be roasting in hell right next to Vanilla Ice for that little infraction alone!
