La Serena, north of Santiago...the NEIC map for some reason uses Coquimbo as the reference point. Coquimbo is a seaport community adjacent to the larger city of La Serena.

I felt it!
Not exactly something we're used to in Southern Indiana.
If your interested, I live in Jasper, IN.
Rattled for 7-10sec.
No appearent damage.

A 4.4?!? That's what we use to stir our latte here in L.A.!

We're in the Georgetown, IN area - been to Jasper several times up near Lake Patoka - anyway - it's weird - we didn't feel or notice a thing.

I like the one where dogs are supposed to go nuts right before a quake Don't know about dogs but my cat behaved very strangely about 24 hours before a quake here in SE Missouri. She as an indoor cat who began pawing at all outside doors and windows, wanting out, and she had never done before...and meowing that sounded as though she was in pain. We were going to take her to the vet the next day, but the quake hit and she settled right down.

I have to say, I'm quite pleased we've made it 81 replies and haven't had a single moron claim this earthquake is a warning from God to America about having legal abortion or not supporting Israel enough or not going back to a gold standard or some other such nonsense. FR is making progress.
Though, you have to admit, Evansville is known throughout the country as a den of perverse vice and sin.

I hear you on the wind and creaking. I am on the 18th floor here (6th & Vine) and this building really creaks in a good gust. I don't recall hearing/feeling that today, but once you get used to it, it takes a prolonged windstorm before you really notice it.

New Madrid, 1803, now that was an earthquake! Just read any of these Google acconts:

I'm in a pole barn in Long Creek working on my tractor. The only reason I noticed it was the steel siding on the barn started rattling. I thought it was one of ADM's jets until I realized I didnt hear a jet overhead.

You guys have it going on down there.I bet more quakes occur in Chile than anywhere else on earth.I like to think earthquakes are just another way that God gets our attention. That's why I don't freak out when they happen, and I've spent my whole life here in the L.A. area. It's very interesting to note that the 4.4 was a precursor to the following larger quake at 5.0 .
Mmmm Hmmmm.

Thanks, now I know who to send the "Are you okay?" notes to. Any damage or just the usual?

Report from Indianapolis' north side: My computer monitor sits on a pedestal, and it started gently rocking back and forth. I asked out loud if we were having an earthquake, and my co-workers chuckled. Seems I called it dead on, eh?

Isn't Missouri on a fault line or something? My sister lives in Hanibal.

You got it! I'm not going to comment but the implications are there for anyone desiring info on the net.
