A tax break for environmental groups is being added to part of President Bush's faith-based initiative, angering some conservatives.

The provision gives a 25 percent discount on capital-gains tax to private property owners who sell their land to environmental groups or the government, instead of to other private parties.

Yeah we'll throw them a bone on that one in a highly visible way, while we gutt it and suplant it behind the scenes. Actually, I think you're dead on target. This is exactly what is going on.

"These are basicly fascist groups."

Once I figured out what was going on, I put those groups into the camp of socialists and communists. The fascists are the people that keep getting elected into office and appointed to head the buraucracy (as well as the toadies who work for them) who use edicts and regulations to "control" people off the land. The ESA and CWA are just two examples of edicts, masquerading as law, used to destroy agriculture and industry here.

"Yes there was no movement at the point of a gun, but if these people didn't sell out in time, I believe that would come."

That's what I used to think too. These days, having experienced Jarbidge and Klamath Falls personally, I think the "forced relocations" would be very few and far between. Me, and maybe you and a dozen or so other people I know would stay and fight; but I'm afraid most everyone else in the situation would cave in under the pressure and threats, move to the compact cities, and learn how to operate a sewage diverter valve.

We would be marked as domestic terrorists and a deluge of propaganda would be produced, showing how we have blown up schools full of kids, attacked National Guard food convoys, killed government workers, etc. By the time they were done spewing their wag the dog propaganda, the sheeple will cry out to have us nuked!

More and more, that big yellow flag with the rattlesnake on it is coming to represent my attitude towards the government, at every level, as they become ever more merged into one.

I agree with your comments. Just remember that if you were to stand up to the government, there wouldn't be more than a smidgen of your fellow citizens that would even comprehend the sacrifice you made. Most of them would file you away with David Koresh in the dark corners of their mind. Don't waste a dose of good patriotism on them. It's a damned shame, but it's the truth.

Well I could assure you otherwise, but you've seen Hastert. You've seen Lott. Do you want me to lie to you or treat you like to trusted friend? ROTFLMAO I guess all we can do at this point is laugh. The only think left to do is cry. Heh heh heh...

I don't really understand it. Until I do, I have no comment, since it seems that something is misssing in this report. Who had the idea originally? What was the justification? Why is the administration supporting it?

Lots of anti comments here, but I don't really see an explanation.

Waiting to see what is really going on.

Actually I was interested in your response. The debate between differing viewpoints that exists on FR was one of the main reasons I finally decided to sign up after lurking for a long time. I understand your hesitation with your reply for it's obvious we both are committed to our own opinions and we should agree to disagree on the matter, but I do enjoy the challenge of a good discussion, and I was anticipating an interesting reply from you having noted how long you've been on the forum. And please, no offense was meant. I most certainly approve your right to voice your opinion. And I'm unsure why you would think that I would spam all of the threads. The point I was trying to make to you, and to others on the thread who were calling Bush nothing but a socialist, was that he has accomplished many things that have most conservatives' approval.

This is no doubt a scam. What are these "environmental groups." What will they do with the land? Turn around and sell it? I see front groups galore.

It is a scam, the Sierra Club, and other "Watermelon" groups buy the land, and sell it to the government at a profit.

Very well said, and there is a lot of screaming going on over very little. Bush is a "give and take" President, and you can bet your last dollar that IF this article is accurate, he has a very good reason for what he's doing. Al Gore he's not, and it's ridiculous to make such a huge leap based on this relatively minor concession. Look at his designs on ANWR. There is more to this than has been made public. Keep the faith, FWI.

Forget it. I give up on this guy. McCain would have been more conservative.

Yeah but he may have "hair cancer" in addition to his many other numerous flaws. Gosh, finding a political leader without baggage is difficult nowadays.

We are not harbouring them, per se. I meant countries that aid and abet them as a mztter of policy. Saudi Arabia is one of these countries. They are in our country thru stupidity of not guarding our borders not a matter of gov't policy.

"I would say that the nuggets are the liberal things he has done."

Do you really call liberal things "nuggets" thrown to us? Not IMO. He is spending billions of our tax money which will be followed by tax increases. 50% is not enough for me. I can accept 70%, but, not 50%. My description of bush still stands until he proves otherwise, but, I hold no hope he will change his embracing the democrat's programs. He is, after all, a democrat.

I've made my point about no one being forced to sell their property to environmentalists, ...

Just to help me understand your comments, on which side of the Continental Divide do you reside?

bulls***. They are de facto forced to sell because NO ONE ELSE WILL BUY IT. Do you understand that the govt regulates these people so hard that they have to sell, or else go bankrupt because they can't pay the taxes or the mortgage, or the $$$ it costs to comply with the red tape, because they no longer have the income from the land, or, if they do the income no longer covers the costs tacked on? And no on else sure will buy it, for those same reasons.

Then in rushes the enviro groups as their 'savior.' Oh, BTW, do you know what they usually do? That's right, sell it to the govt. The govt gets property for cheap, the enviros make a killing, and we do the whole dog and pony show all over again. And voila, the amount of govt land owned edges a bit higher. What is it now nationally 40+% or so?

I thought reactionary was an interesting choice of descriptors. I guess just about anyone would be a reactionary to the walking dead Bushbot zombies. They react to nothing. There's always an excuse. Bush has seemingly attained perfection in their eyes.
