Conspiracy Buffs See Similarities Between Jose Padilla, John Doe 2
The Wall Street Journal ^ | June 17, 2002 | JAY KRALL and JONATHAN EIG

Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy, Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln, and Terry Lynn Nichols had a wife named Padilla.

The latter bit of news has put conspiracy theorists on heightened alert.

For years, a small, devoted group has been trying to prove that the nation's second-deadliest terrorist attack -- on the Alfred P. Murrah Building in Oklahoma City -- was carried out not just by Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols but also by a vast network of Muslim extremists.

Mainstream papers now reporting it with a wink -- better than not at all.

The funny thing is how anyone who rules out the possibility of more terrorists involved in OKC has only their faith in the Reno-politicized and terror-bungling FBI bureaucracy to stand on. May as well be thin air. Why not trust the Oklahoma people and their accounts and investigations instead? Well, that would be like believing the hundreds of TWA800 crash eyewitnesses who contradict that goofy CIA animation created with martian physics!

The FBI, which isn't taking these claims seriously

Oh, well. That's certainly good enough for me! Nothing to see here folks! Move along!

This WSJ article didn't give credit to the FREE REPUBLIC where this story originated due to a poster pointing out the similarities between Padilla and the sketch of John Doe #2. In any case, has the whereabouts of Padilla in April 1995 been determined yet?

Nice title they used, implying anyone who sees the similarity is a conspiracy kook, SOP. A blind man can see the similarities.

I think that the poster on FR was reporting what she had heard on FOXNEWS, who had heard it elsewhere.

Yeah, I love when people use "conspiracy theories" interchangably to refer to allegations of a criminal conspiracy based on known facts and motives.

And as for any suspicion of a cover-up, they'll imply that cover-ups never happen and there could never be a motive or desire for someone to do so. Especially with the honorable and spotless FBI (cough!) or Bill Clinton. Where have all the real reporters gone?

After all, what was the mainstream media's greatest journalism story in their lives? Watergate: A conspiracy theory leading to a criminal conspiracy topped off with a cover-up.

This could fit the same pattern or maybe not. But just like TWA800, real reporting would be too difficult and hurt the bottom line.

Yeah, this is something that just spread like wildfire once there was a single mention from a caller on radio/TV, or a post online. Anyone who still had that sketch in mind noticed at least some sort of similarity to Padilla.

Yep, most of these happened under klintoons watch but the usual suspects are still in the positions of power. Our new FBI directors first official duty was to minimize and coverup for the offices failures. The FBI and CIA need a complete house cleaning. The fact that we paid these inept officials performance bonuses is beyond belief.

Lincoln had a secretary named Kennedy, Kennedy had a secretary named Lincoln, and Terry Lynn Nichols had a wife named Padilla.

Only her last name wasn't Padilla before marriage to Nichols, but after, when she remarried one Leonard Padilla of Las Vegas, Nevada, who works for the FAA...LOL.

The truth takes twist and turns that no conspiracy theory can account for.

The FBI described him as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5-foot-9 or 5-foot-10. His sketch, released by the FBI the day after the bombing, shows dark hair swept straight back, strong eyebrows, a square jaw and a powerful neck. Mr. Padilla, who is Hispanic, appears to have a more rounded jaw, but his other features closely match those of the sketch.

The FBI described him as....What the hell did the witnesses describe him as?

Reno's FBI told us that the Davidians were making drugs, abusing children, that the tear gas was non-flamable and that the Davidians started the fire themselves, but later had to recount all that in light of the evidence.

Why should we believe this was any different? Especially in light of clinton's quick attack on the militia's and conservative talk radio as perpetrators and enciters of domestic terrorism.

What would have happened to his chances of re-election if they had admitted that this too was false, or that TWA800 was downed by overseas terrorist as well?

How apropo that a 60's lyric fits.

When the truth is found to be lies
And all the joy within you dies
Don't you want somebody to love
Don't you need somebody to love
Wouldn't you love somebody to love
You'd better find somebody to love.

Enter Monica.

If time truely wounds all heals, the clintons and the FOB's have some more and more serious bruisings coming.

The thread that The Magical Mischief Tour started began the night before this was mentioned on Fox News. A FReeper sent an e-mail to Fox News based on that thread.

Right-wing, left-wing, government guys, or muslims doesn't matter, but does anyone truly believe that McVeigh and Nichols were the only 2 participants in the entire event?

This isn't to say that they weren't involved or didn't deserve their punishment, but it seems that in order to secure prosecution of these 2, all other participants' roles were negelcted.

Great points all.

It's now common knowledge how Clinton tried to avoid serious retaliation against America's Islamist terrorist enemies and states wherever possible, and cracked down on domestic political enemies with unusual fervor. Painting the mainstream right as dangerous radical nazis was he and Hillary's favorite pasttime. His motive for minimilizing Muslim terrorist involvement is clear as day. And we know that Reno and the FBI were simply extensions of his will.

Compare how much political attention he paid to the bombing of the World Trade Center by radical Muslims. He practically tried to pretend it never happened. There too, leads the FBI had pointing to state sponsorship and Al Qaeda were minimized. Probably since it would have complicated the FBI's legal case.

It's on Page B-1, in the section named "Marketplace".

I haven't heard the left crying that we are no longer looking for/finding racist right-wing extremist hate groups that are trying to overthrow our government. Are churches still "burning"? At the end of the investigation, there was revealed to be no increase in fires and a good number were set for insurance, some were accidents, and some were vindettas of assorted kinds.

Someday historians will reveal the Clintons to be much more off base than Joseph McCarthy was. Talk about your witch hunts...

Ms. Padilla laughed when a local television talk show called to ask her about the matching names. She says she's never met Jose Padilla and isn't related to him.

But she, too, believes there was a larger conspiracy at work. After the bombing, she gave police a letter she received in 1994 from Mr. Nichols before one of his trips to the Philippines. In the letter, she says, he suggested he was "afraid of something or somebody." Ms. Padilla speculates he was worried he might be harmed if he identified his co-conspirators.

The more she looks at the mug shots, the more intrigued she becomes. "At first I found it funny," she says. "Now I think we should investigate this."

The first tactic to take the wind out the sails of a conspiracy theory is to make it sound ridiculous. She's now intruiged and was intimately involved with one of the known participants in the act.
