Alleged McKinney election law violations covered up

To the Editor:

So, the State Election Board has helped Billy and Cynthia McKinney cover up their alleged election law violations during the last election. After twice voting 5-0, in December, to forward the case to a judge for a full evidentiary hearing in public, they today abruptly changed their minds and accepted a consent order from the McKinneys ("we didn't do it, but we promise not to do it again") to close the case. This neatly avoids having the evidence presented in an open forum, where the public could make up its own mind about whom to believe.

The vote was 4-1. The four Democrats who had bravely stood up for honest elections in December, including Secretary of State Cathy Cox, all broke and ran under the pressure. Only Republican John Sours stood up against the decision. And, in what has to be a new definition of chutzpah, after they had dragged the case out for months, they complained today that it had gone on too long, and that was the reason why they should accept the consent decree.

What a crock! What happened today was a Class A example of one-party government at its worst. No Democrats were willing to buck the McKinneys and go after the truth, because they were afraid of the political consequences. They've demonstrated that instead of a "zero tolerance" policy for election law violations, what we have (for the McKinneys at least) is a "zero enforcement" policy.

If there aren't any Democrats with backbone, isn't it time to give the Republicans a chance?

Sincerely,

Rep. Bob Irvin

" ... isn't it time to give Republicans a chance?"

There are scalawags on both sides of the aisle. But at least Republican scalawags have a sense of shame and resign when found out. The old saying "There is Honor Among Thieves" only holds true when the thieves are Republicans.

Maybe there is a silver lining! Who knows, but here's hoping McKinney gets her just desserts.

"Numbers don't lie

As recent poll suggests, some 4th District voters think McKinney hasn't done enough to promote prosperity"

"The Majette campaign is surely using every means of communication -- handheld to carrier pigeon -- at its disposal to get word out about the Cooper & Secrest poll that shows her leading McKinney 41 percent to 37 percent (with a hefty 22 percent still undecided)." KEVIN GRIFFIS

"Asking if McKinney is an embarrassment is like asking if the sky is blue or if Atlanta traffic stinks. The answer is not in doubt. The question, given the volume of evidence, is where to start." (LUKE BOGGS)

BTW, during our May FReep of Cynthia, I radioed up to "Be not afraid!" that Billy had arrived and was talking to the Fox camera man. He immediately radioed back "Does he have a knife?"

Safety first.

Irvin hits the nail on the head. There are "yellow-bellies" on both sides of the fence when it comes to the McKinneys. It's enough to make me want to toss my breakfast.

Here's hoping that Denise Majette has the chutzpah to not back down from the thuggish McKinney clan. I have never wanted a Dem to be elected so badly.....
