Well, it's been 4 years since I first found Free Republic. I have always felt like I belonged here and have really enjoyed the banter back and forth between us members. I am afraid all this is now over. I am really suprised and shocked at it's suddenness. Before I leave I want to thank a freeper from Michigan who sent me a DVD player last year to give to my kids for Christmas. You reaffirmed my faith in humanity.

I know this thread will be deleted before many people get to read it, but I just can't go without saying a final word. Every since 911 the 'vibe' here at FR has been decidedly hostile. I guess it was a matter of time before the newbie moderator got around to weeding me out for my sometimes unpopular views. So I join the ranks of A+Bert and so many others who gave FR a interesting flavor. I will miss coming here 20 times a day and keeping up on things. But without posting priviledges there is just no point. I must go find another conservative group to try to be a part of.

In the future, when a freeper who has been a loyal member since August 1998 crosses the line, how about a note instead of banning? Would that have been too much? I may have gotten out of line, how is beyond me, but if such a tresspass would have been pointed out I would gladly have refrained from doing so again. It is just not right to just ban an account with no explaination. Especially when the freeper has been here 4 years. I have no idea what I am going to do with my days now that I no longer have FR. Well, I guess I have said my part. It is a sad day when one has to leave family and friends. I feel like some of you were just that. But apparently I am no longer wanted around here. I bid my good day to you all and hope that karma pays it's respects to those who do injustice.

Thanks for letting me in on that. However, I disagree based on the composition of some of the ping lists and the tone of some of the replies over the past four years. If you want specifics, I don't have any right at hand now to draw from. There are instances of marginalizing some and while overlooking the mistakes of others.

An example, some people who post on FR are considerably older. They grew up in a different era and have different mores and different insights. What is considered politically incorrect now, was not at all when they were younger. Its very easy for younger people to poke fun at them and ascribe them as having no value. However, when I get to be their age, I sure hope people are a little more forgiving than they seem to be here. Alienating and marginalizing older people because a younger person might think their beliefs are unhip, is something only a weakling would do. In some ways, its also how America got to where i is now. We failed to look back to look forward. Intemperant views on race are an example of this. Sometimes a gentle hand can accomplish a lot more than slamming someone up side the head because you disagree with them.
Does that mean some older people can't be outright whacky old fools and just plain wrong ? Of course not. It just means, maybe some would be wise to consider what it might be like when they themselves get older. Note, this was an EXAMPLE. I'm not pointing fingers.

Yes, the terrorists are a threat, but a statistically insignificant one. The government has a much greater influence over my life, so is truly the greater threat to my liberty. I said that before during Clinton, I say it now during Bush. I see many posters here being attacked for saying the very same thing, but in different phrases and using different issues.

Is Padilla a traitorous SOB? Probably. Would it have been better if Dan from Michigan had been on the scene and shot the guy himself, as he said he wished he could have been? Probably. Is the gov't acting the correct way in this? Dunno, I tend to doubt it. My preference is that we are ruled by laws and process (and as little as possible, but that's the libertarian in me), not by men and their whims. If they can't find SOMETHING he's done that's illegal, let me send my dog and HE can be in charge. I'm sure he'd be able to sniff something out.

Bush typically can play the politics well in different areas, but he seems to be leaving himself open to valid criticism from both the left and right.

Well, just think about all of the Muslims that our government imports every day. I can picture the US having the same problems with terrorists that Israel does.
