Good-Bye Cruel Free Republic

Well, it's been 4 years since I first found Free Republic. I have always felt like I belonged here and have really enjoyed the banter back and forth between us members. I am afraid all this is now over. I am really suprised and shocked at it's suddenness. Before I leave I want to thank a freeper from Michigan who sent me a DVD player last year to give to my kids for Christmas. You reaffirmed my faith in humanity.

I know this thread will be deleted before many people get to read it, but I just can't go without saying a final word. Every since 911 the 'vibe' here at FR has been decidedly hostile. I guess it was a matter of time before the newbie moderator got around to weeding me out for my sometimes unpopular views. So I join the ranks of A+Bert and so many others who gave FR a interesting flavor. I will miss coming here 20 times a day and keeping up on things. But without posting priviledges there is just no point. I must go find another conservative group to try to be a part of.

In the future, when a freeper who has been a loyal member since August 1998 crosses the line, how about a note instead of banning? Would that have been too much? I may have gotten out of line, how is beyond me, but if such a tresspass would have been pointed out I would gladly have refrained from doing so again. It is just not right to just ban an account with no explaination. Especially when the freeper has been here 4 years. I have no idea what I am going to do with my days now that I no longer have FR. Well, I guess I have said my part. It is a sad day when one has to leave family and friends. I feel like some of you were just that. But apparently I am no longer wanted around here. I bid my good day to you all and hope that karma pays it's respects to those who do injustice.

Guilt-by-Association fallacy. Bad form.

I could be totally wrong on the matter of Bush's Constitutional Authority, and you still have to wrap your mind around the fact that the most Free Republic in the history of the planet Earth... Pardek, it warn't built by Pagans, it warn't built by Jews, it warn't built by Roman Catholics, it warn't built by "free will" Protestants... It was built by Calvinists.

There ain't never been a Free Republic on Earth, like the America which the Calvinists hath wrought... as a necessary logical consequence of the political implications of our anti-humanistic theology, when every other theology, thinking that Men are Good, could believe in the Divine Right of Kings.

Us Calvinists, now... we think that Men are naturally evil, so they should have as little temporal Power as possible. And on that basis, we birthed the most Free society in the history of the World. Go figure, huh?

Wrap your mind around that.

Lets see if this clears things up for the "Strickt Constitutionalist....

1). The detainees at GITMO are being held as Battlefield Combatants = Combatants with no definable uniform

2). Traitor = An individual who betrays his country by aiding and supporting its enemies.

3). POW = A captured identifiable enemy soldier that accepts and is covered by the Geneva Convention.

Does that clear up any grey areas for you?

Well, here's how Jefferson put it:
"Journal of the House of Representatives of the United States
December 8, 1801
TH. JEFFERSON.
... Unauthorized by the Constitution, without the sanction of Congress, to go beyond the line of defence, the vessel, being disabled from committing further hostilities, was liberated, with its crew. The Legislature will doubtless consider whether, by authorizing measures of offence also, they will place our force on an equal footing with that of its adversaries."
He felt he could not take "measures of offence " without congress's authorization.
That fit in with Madison's view that the president should have only "the power to repel sudden attacks" on his own.

Posted by Texasforever to OrthodoxPresbyterian On News/Activism Jun 16 10:42 PM #1,092 of 1,101 The question was, did Congress declare war. You said yes. I asked you if you would concede the point if I showed that there was no DOW. You said you would listen. I fulfilled my burden to you, do you now concede the point?

I concede that there was a formal Congressional Affirmation of War.

I believe that is an honest statement on my part. Will it satisfy your challenge?

Patrick Henry on unlawful combatants:

"Those who declare war against the human race may be struck out of existence as soon as apprehended. He was not executed according to those beautiful legal ceremonies which are pointed out by the laws in criminal cases. The enormity of his crime did not entitle him to it. I am truly a friend to legal forms and methods, but, sir, the occasion warranted the measure. A pirate, an outlaw, or a common enemy to all mankind, may be put to death at any time. It is justified by the law of nature and nations." (3d volume Elliott's Debates on Federal Constitution, page 140.)"

Good night all!

Alright, so what about this "radiological bomb" guy, Padillo or whatever he thinks his name is?

I'd actually like to see him considered as an Enemy Combatant, shoot-first-and-ask-questions-later... but under your definitions....?

What's our protocol? Do we have one? Any?

Congress formally affirmed the existence of a State of War. Am I incorrect? I am still listening.

I get it!

No,you don't. Nothing surprising about this though,as you have never "gotten" anything that I have ever seen.

The only thing that makes a 10 kiloton nuclear denoation stand out from a firecracker is that the nuke has a bigger (i.e., more "successful") explosion.

I'm going to type REAL slow so that maybe even YOU can get it,but the big differences between a 10K nuke and a firecracker is that one is a weapon of mass destruction that can kill tens of thousands of people at one time and destroy property, and the other just goes "bang!".

BTW,this IS going to happen eventually, and there is nothing the governement can do to prevent it. They may get lucky and catch the first ten suitcase nukes coming in the country, but sooner or later one WILL get though and be detonated. That will be the day this whole discussion becomes academic, and Muslims start to become extinct. They don't have the first clue about what is going to happen to them when they do this. It will make everY other war before this seem like summer camp in comparison, including the eastern front between Russia and Germany in WW-2.

Unfortunately it has your pecker in it.

You are beneath contempt. Your only contribution to humanity is as an example of its basest form.

Just that it's pretty quick. Should happen this week, or early next week at the latest.

Thanks. How about start a thread when this happens to explain to those of us who don't understand the law what is going on?

They passed a joint resolution exactly like the WOT joint resolution. Those resolutions gave both Jefferson and Bush the authority to assume their war powers as CIC. YOU are now spinning one resolution as constitutional while declaring the WOT resolution constitutionally unsound.
