The Freepathons are hard work for those of us who work the threads and the incoming donations. When donations come in it is our reward, no matter how small they are. We spend our time thanking the donor, posting amongst our selves, etc. When it gets quiet and hours go by without any incoming donations it gets very frustrating.
So we go out and carpet bomb the threads to create more incoming donations. Here is where the problem starts. If you don't like our appeals, just scroll past them or DONATE. The sooner we reach or goal the sooner the bombs go away. Yesterday your Freepathon team took an amazing amount of abuse, on other threads and via Freepmail. Without this team there would not be this forum for your enjoyment. If you were to read the comments that come in from truely poor Freepers and Lurkers it would make you cry and hang your head in shame. There is no obligation to donate. You all are welcome here. BUT there is an obligation not to bitch about it. Attacking our fundraising team on any thread or via Freepmail will earn you a time out. I want it stopped NOW.
I personally do not give a damn about your pissy assed ego whining about how you can't afford to help. Read all you want. Post all you want. But shut the hell up when it comes to the team and the fundraising efforts. Calling the team moochers and worse on any thread, or sending them nasty Freepmails will get you forever banned.
We do not mind that you ride in our boat. We do not mind that you do not help row. But if you insist on dragging your feet in the water, Get the hell out of our boat.
And tag lines ..please bring back the tag lines
So people, "Stop your b!t@hin'"
I miss the tag-lines - some of the best comments ever were those hidden little gems!
perhaps color coded to show what range of donation the member made
a "Hall of Fame".. list the screen names of those who donate.
Possibly there could even be additional levels of functionality made available to those who donate.
food for thought.
Thought it and spit it out! Respectfully, don't start this kind of stuff. It would ruin the debate. It's high school, elitst, and not Republican (except at the countryclub).
Weren't they ... ahhhhhhhhhhhh the memorories
Since I've defended both Bush on the cocaine questions and Daschle on the Income Tax thing, can you guess what my honest answer would be?
I just want to say thanks for all the great work you all do.
I respectfully diagree with your assessment.
First of all, virtually anyone who can afford to be on-line can afford to chip in five or ten bucks a month to FR -- hardly a country club level financial burden. (Believe me, I am in no position to join a country club myself).
Second of all, as for being "high school," well I haven't been in high school for thirty-four years, so I can't speak to that.
Thirdly, as for not being "Republican," well although I am second to no one in my disdain for Democrats, whom I hold in only slightly higher regard than Muslims these days, I remind you that on the FR Home page it states, inpart: "Free Republic is not affiliated with any political party . . . ." But that point notwithstanding, I fail to see how recognizing people's contributions to the cause is "un-Republican."
Lastly, if it is true that only two hundred or so Freepers are funding this site, then I would like to know how they are. And when I see someone complaining about the policies here at FR, or taking certain political positions, I want be able to see whether they have put their money where their mouth is, so that I can better assess the value of their comments. (Just like we can see the date that a Freeper joined, and often use that to evaluate the relative merit of their observations.)
As far as I'm concerned, any regular Freeper who can't make an occasional contribution to this site is a freeloader. If such people are humiliated by the fact that those who donate might be acknowledged and recognized for doing so, too bad. Wanting to spare people the "humiliation" of being freeloaders is, in my opinion, very "DemocRATic."
Is that a quote from Jim Robinson? Doesn't quite sound his style. I guess if we help out on fundraiser we can say what we want? Just curious. Thanks for the kind reply.
