Detroit Cup City
After a dominating season, Detroit stands tall above them all. The Red Wings took home the Stanley Cup by defeating Carolina 3-1. Tomas Holmstrom and Brendan Shanahan scored in the second, and the incomprable Dominik Hasek made 16 saves. Detroit claimed its third Stanley Cup in six years and the 10th in franchise history. Scotty Bowman notched his record ninth Cup, one more than his mentor, former Montreal coach Toe Blake, and as many as any coach in any major pro sport.

I hope that the Wings next coach is Barry Smith or Dave Lewis, one of the two longtime assistants.

As for goalie, out backup is Manny Legace, and he did a good job for us this year. Can he be 'the man'? I don't know. Being number one goalie in Detroit is the toughest job in the city.

He's going to be a good player in a couple of years.

I echo your sentiments about Hull.

I agree also with your Hasek comments. He was good for Buffalo. But it was great to see how his most ardent supporters turned on him when he turned on the Sabres. No one wanted to see him stick around.

I really hope Buffalo has a team next year. Things aren't looking good for the owners.

Hasnt there been 27 coaching changes in the NHL over the past 3 years? And Ted Nolan still cant get a job.

I honestly think that Lindy Ruff is a better coach than Ted Nolan, though I won't deny Nolan his moment in the Sabres/Senators series.

I was surprised though that none of the expansion teams picked him up as coach. He does show leadership behind the bench, and it would have given him a chance to really build a name for himself.

There has to be some sort of conspiracy by the NHL against him. I can not think of any other explanation for his total and complete bannishment.

The guy went from the Stanley Cup Finals to living in a shack on an indian reservation in the span of 2 months and hasnt been heard from since.

When did Nolan take a team to the finals? The farthest he took the Sabres was the second round, when they were totally blown away by Philadelphia.

He did recently make an appearance in Buffalo, though I am not sure what for. It was just a small blurb on the news.

Never mind, I confused Nolan with Ruff for a minute there regarding the Dallas tainted Cup.

I'm happy whenever one of the "old" NHL teams wins the championship.

Don't live in the past.

I was unhappy to see the locals in Motown knew to board of their windows and stay inside.

("Hockeytown", my ass. Maybe Toronto, Montreal or Edmonton could call themselves that, but Motown is Motown, hence the thing the red wing is attached to)

Actually, the name comes from a former Canadian team... The Winged Wheelers.

Now that's really lame. A wing on a wheel. Whoopee. A big scary Buffalo...now that's a good logo.

i didn't ignore the avs, i just didn't happen to mention them. this wings team has GREAT players. but i couldn't figure out why their fans booed them when vancouver won the first two. why would fans boo such great players? could it be that the fans are not as classy as the players? naw, that's probably not it.

I'm afraid to ask what that 'thing' is you replaced the wing with... Okay, let it be a pickle or something...

Another Canes fan who just doesn't get it. That's called true fandom. Fans in Detroit know how to get their players going. You Canes fans might want to try it, instead of clapping for your losing team, give them a 'pick-me-up-boo'. :o)

Oh, and speaking of 'classy fans', how 'bout that picture of a Canes fan smashing his homemade Stanley Cup with his foot? Yeah, that's classy ;)
