GRACE: Well Tom, I would have to agree with you. If police are searching the area with helicopters looking for this guy, that leads me to think that he's got some very important information that they want.
Tom Smart, message to the kidnapper tonight, what do you have to say?

There is some breaking news. The license plate from the green Saturn has been found in Centerville, Utah. Just the license plate has been found. The Staurn is the car belonging to the 26 year old transient. It was apparently tossed in a ditch.
Now the police are looking for anyone who might have had a license plate stolen.
This is a strange case, imo. And I pray that Elizabeth is found alive, but each day that passes is a day that increases her peril.

I didn't see the presss conference, I just listened to it on the radio. It almost sounded as if the chief would re-ask the question, answer it, or confer with Smart. That is the impression I got over the radio. I about smacked some of those thoughtless reporters, though, especially the one who asked why the family hadn't made the nine year old available to the media. Anyway, thanks for the info on the visual of the uncle. This is horribly hard on the family, and especially on Elizabeth.

They are Mormons aren't they? And by this you mean?

Have you noticed that folks on these FR threads are a lot more interested in having the little girl work with a sketch artist, than the SL police or FBI are? Does this raise any questions in your mind?
look, there has been a massive failed search for this girl...fbi, city police, state cops etc...tons of media...tons of volenteer hours....helicopters and planes all over the place..
.. And is it too much to ask that a professional sketcher come in and help the police?
I think not
If there was a real wonderful reason why the uncle or the cops did not want a sketch....you know what, they could have told Marc Klaus the truth and ask him to back off..simple solution
But now we have a circle of wagons....and it should not be that way....
I don't know why Free republic exists if not for people to raise issues, expound on theories, discuss solutions etc....why are you here?

Thanks for the info, this is not good. The police did say that Edmunds was known to ditch license plates. Unfortunately, this kinds of puts Edmunds in a hotter spot. And Centerville is about 15-20 minutes north of SLC and a good 35 minutes north of where he was spotted yesterday. This is just a case with extremely puzzling clues.

PJ, I saw the interview..The uncle is acting strange. Something isn't right. Maybe on the hour, Larry King will have more or FOX will. Very troubling statement. Heard this from others. And the interview IS strange. Wonder what's up.

Could be a the perp is a wacko they hired and did not pay or fired. The sister did say the perp mentioned the word "hostage".
To: GovernmentShrinker
The more we can steer the threads in that direction, the more we'll all learn from the process
really sir, why do you think that you need to "steer " these threads anywhere?
The threads go in any direction they want to,,,its called brain storming.

I know plenty about Mormons, and I couldn't care less who thinks they're Christians and who thinks they're not, since I'm not a Christian of any sort. You, however, seem to think you know a lot about Mormons, but are actually spouting a weird mixture of fact, fantasy, and sour grapes, picked up from who knows where. What possible bearing does it have on the Smart case that Mormons believe Jesus visited North America? Would your version of Jesus prefer that you come to this thread and spread ill will towards Mormons, or that you share your insights on this case and express sympathy for a family whose lovely daughter is missing? If the former, I'll certainly remember to the go with the Mormons, rather than your religion, if I ever think about becoming some sort of Christian.

I have read them and I don't find any of the explanations at all plausible. The whole situation is just plain weird.
Like I said, it's time to hire a professional pr guy and a detective. The family needs to muzzle the uncle and get back on track to find this little girl. The only other alternative is to sick back and do nothing.

To defend the ultimate and exclusive truth of one religion over all others? Just guessing.

What was his way of getting here?

I think he's doing his best to say the sorts of things the profilers and police have told him to say. The media, and perhaps the investigators as well, prefer to have a family member as a spokesperson, and there may not be better qualified family members available for duty. He may have some things to hide, but as a previous poster pointed out, that doesn't necessarily imply things that are related to the abduction. All of these relatives and their families are being investigated thoroughly right now, and that's got to be a disturbing experience. He may turn out to have something sinister going on, but I'm prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt until some more solid evidence of that comes up.

I feel sorry for that man and what happened to his daughter, but he doesn't have a "right" to intrude on every single kidnapping in the world. And that goes for the Most Wanted guy, too. They both give me the creeps.
You know, I've been inclined to give these folks the benefit of doubt. That the unspeakable horror that they have had to endure has driven them to their actions as a way to cope, and perhaps to help others avoid the pain that they have endured, thus leading to some measure of peace. This remains my sense of their plight. I guess I'm just not cynical enough, at my present stage of life, to believe that these folks are motivated more by publicity, money, etc. I could be wrong, but this scenario just doesn't add up for me.
I can imagine that, at times, their "help" might be rejected. But that, in itself, is not sufficient reason to impune their motives, IMHO.

THANK YOU... THANK YOU... THANK YOU...
It is so nice to see people on here that are continually making sense of what is going on.
I am not a Mormon, nor do I know much about the Mormon lifestyle. But I believe the Smart Family are being as normal as can be under the circumstances and I do not base my opinion on their faith. I have not seen anything out of any family member that seems or seemed to be out of the ordinary for a family going through this. I pray for them and Elizabeth every night before I finally lay down to sleep, I keep hoping that when I wake from my sleep she will have been found. Hopefully everyone's prayers and mine will be answered soon!

Admittedly, John Walsh and his TV show have done a lot of good.John Walsh is not properly appreciated. He should receive at least a special Emmy Award for his part in helping capture hundreds of fugitives, and perhaps something more substantial from an federal law enforcement agency.
I just wish he would stay in the background more instead of trying to be the "star" of the show.
He doesn't have to "try." Walsh IS the star of the show. How would he "stay in the background" and who would come into the foreground instead?
Marc Klaas and John Walsh both have gone way past their fifteen minutes of fame. Of course, I felt sorry for them both when then children were brutally murdered. But, making a CAREER out of it is getting to be offensive to watch.
The idea that "fifteen minutes of fame" should be allotted to the parent of a murdered child is offensive to me. Adam Walsh and Polly Klaas are not the equivalent of Kato Kaelin and Darva Conger. The latter are to be forgotten; the former should be remembered.
Rather than retreat into silent self-pity that doesn't do anybody any good, Walsh and Klaas are doing what they can to prevent what happened to their children and capture people who would victimize others. Why do you have a problem with that? Law enforcement officers make a career out of fighting crime, and sometimes they aren't even any good at it -- especially in Washington, D.C.
Marc Klass is far more obnoxious. If he had a TV show it would be called "All About Marc".
You should think about the fact that you are criticizing Klaas for being "obnoxious" as if this situation was an episode of Law and Order rather than being a real-life mystery and a probable tragedy.
As for Klaas' "intrusion;" Can YOU think of a reason why people without something to hide would refuse to work with a sketch artist with a proven record of helping capture fugitives? Can you honestly tell me you wouldn't like to know the answer to that question? And if an answer isn't forthcoming, wouldn't you want someone "obnoxious" to demand one?

I usually don't see this stuff but being out of work has afforded me some time to see this kind of stuff, It was weird. David Smart almost lunged to the mike barley missing the chief , The Chief didn't bat an eye lid. He looks like the "guy between a rock and a hard place" and can hardly wait to retire and go fishing.
To: JudyB1938
heavy sigh.
To: oldvike
No, that's strictly Clinton territory.
