New Zogby Poll: Mexicans Say Southwest U.S. Belongs to Them; Shouldn't Need Permission to Enter U.S.

WASHINGTON, June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Americans and Mexicans have widely divergent views of border issues, according to a new poll by Zogby International. Zogby found that a large majority of the Mexican population believes the southwest territory of the U.S. rightfully belongs to Mexico, and that Mexicans should have the right to enter the U.S. without first obtaining U.S. permission. By contrast, Zogby's survey of Americans conducted within a few days of the Mexican poll shows a large majority supports reducing immigration levels and wants the military deployed along the border to protect the U.S. from illegal immigration.

Zogby's poll found that 58 percent of Mexicans agree with the statement, "the territory of the United States' Southwest rightfully belongs to Mexico." Only 28 percent disagree, and 14 percent are unsure. A similar majority, 57 percent, agree with the statement, "Mexicans should have the right to enter the U.S. without U.S. permission," while 35 percent disagree. Seven percent are unsure.

The survey has a margin of error of 3.5 percent. The Mexico portion of the survey was conducted in Spanish between May 25 and May 26 among 801 adults chosen at random throughout Mexico. The poll was commissioned by Americans for Immigration Control, Inc. (AIC), which advocates increased restrictions on immigration.

"There is obviously a large and significant gap between the attitudes of Americans and Mexicans," said Robert Goldsborough, AIC president. "While most Americans want immigration reduced, most Mexicans think they don't even need permission to enter our country. The poll clearly shows there is less common ground for immigration negotiations between Mexico and the U.S. than the leaders think. Support for a porous border and a loose migration policy occurs only on the Mexican side, not in the U.S."

Zogby's survey of American attitudes found wide majorities of Americans also oppose amnesty for illegal aliens. The U.S. portion of the survey was conducted of 1,015 likely voters in the U.S. from May 28 to May 30. It found that 65 percent disagree with the statement, "foreigners residing illegally in the U.S. should be given amnesty." Just 26 percent of likely voters support amnesty for illegals, while 9 percent are unsure.

A large majority, 58 percent, agrees that the U.S. should "admit fewer immigrants each year." Only 6 percent want "more immigrants each year," and 30 percent want to "keep immigration at the current annual levels."

The single largest majority in the entire poll was found among Americans supporting use of the military to guard the border. Fully 68 percent of those surveyed agree with the statement, "the U.S. should deploy military troops on the border as a temporary measure to help the U.S. Border Patrol curb illegal immigration." Only 28 percent disagree, and 3 percent are unsure.

Poll details and sub-group tabulations available on request.

Something's fishy here.

The only thing fishy here is you. 5 people have replied to your post, but you do not have the courtesy to reply back and back up your original post.

I don't expect a reply either.

"Don't think they need permission. Think California belongs to Mexico."
That is the problem in a nutshell.

We should quickly disabuse the Mexicans of this notion. First we should build an electrified barbed-wire fence along the length of the border from the Rio Grande to the pacific. On our side of the fence should be a deep moat they can fall into in the unlikely event they make it over the fence. Guarding the moat should be the Border Patrol and National Guard's best shooters.

A Matter of Faith: Islam is Fastest-Growing Religion in the U.S.

Abdullah Yusuf, center, prays at the Masjid As-Salam in Sacramento
on Friday. Yusuf says he was raised Catholic but converted to Islam
because he liked the teachings of the Qur'an.

Latino Muslims

In April, California State University, Sacramento, hosted a forum on the "Islamic Presence in Latin America" before and after Columbus. One of the speakers, Salvadoran-born AbdulHadi Bazurto (President of Latin American Muslim Unity), said the more he examined his roots, the more he questioned the validity of Catholicism in his life. "Since the day the Spanish arrived, we as people have suffered a lot," he said. "Christianity's 'white God' concept was harmful to our people, who were definitely not white."

Another speaker, Daniel Denton, a Stockton elementary school teacher who was born in Mexico, said he was a hard-drinking veteran of the Gulf War when he began to explore Islam in 1994. At the invitation of Muslims at Delta College, he went to a mosque. "There was a carpet on the floor, and the walls were bare. I wondered, 'Where is everything?' and then I realized that was everything. If you go to a Catholic church, every few feet they have an image or a statue, but in Islam, there is no association between God and any image."

Denton also was impressed by the Islamic belief that each individual will be judged by their deeds on Judgment Day. That night, he took the shahada, the Muslim vow that says "There is only one God, Allah, and Muhammad is his messenger."

When he started fasting for Ramadan, "I heard my relatives in Stockton were calling my mom in San Diego and telling her I had become a terrorist and was doing drugs," Denton said. "When I went down to San Diego toward the end of Ramadan, I had lost 15 pounds and was starting to grow my beard. My mom was just in tears for days."

But, Denton said, his mother soon realized that instead of partying, he was staying home and talking to her as he had never done before.

"As she began to see the change, she came to accept it, and now she's happy. There's a saying in Islam that goes, 'Heaven lies at the feet of the mother. You have to treat her well at all times, take care of her.' "

Denton, 29, sees similarities between Islamic and Latino culture. "I've noticed that if you take away the crosses, the alcohol and the pork, the smells in my house are similar to Muslim homes. So is the behavior -- the respect for family."

Doesn't seem too unreasonable of a conclusion to come to, considering mexicans are displacing americans as a language and culture. Spanish is EVERYWHERE and places were there is no large hispanic population. About a year ago i heard an AT&T commercial and it was entirely in spanish and it kinda suprised me. I mean i do still live in an english speaking country, seems the majority is giving into foreign cultures and languages.

People need to prepare themselves for defeat and prepare for a WAR it will be for the very soul of this country.

Scary... the male-dominated Mexican culture dovetails too handily with Islam. Thanks.

I see, and when exactly is this going to happen?

Sorry, I don't have my crystal ball in front of me at the moment, but I imagine it could happen at anytime - this year, next year, 5 years from now, 10 years from now, etc. A lot of people never thought that the Revoluntiary War would ever happen. A lot of people never thought that the Civil War would ever happen. The future can be very unpredictable. But maybe we Americans have gotten all the "fighting for what we believe in" out of our system and will just roll over and play dead the next time something comes up that would normally cause Americans to rise up in a collective patriotic fervor. But only time will tell.

Dave, I like you. You're naive, unrealistic and just plain wrong -- but at least your heart's in the right place!

Thanks. I accept your opinion in the spirit in which it was intended.

When push comes to shove, Americans will take up arms and settle things once and for all, if it becomes necessary to do so.

We're already being pushed and shoved, and any number of Freepers think it's political genius to continue to appease the invasion.

If they won't vote against it, what makes you think they'll take up arms?

I just don't see it. Have you looked at what we are turning out in our so called educational system?

I have been hearing the same tired sop line for the last forty years and it's always the same. The Liberals and radicals keep pushing their program and agenda, we get betrayed by politicians who pretend to be conservative and keep opening the floodgates because it means cheap labor.

The fact of the matter is that most Euro-Americans have long ago accepted the concept of a "melting pot" myth and a multicultural smorgasbord. Only now they are begining to realize it means the end of the Western christian culture of the country.

The demographics are just not saomething we can erverse. As long as Caucasians have a reproductive rate of less than 1.5, way below the 2.3 necessary to replace ourselves we will become extinct.

You can't compete when the average for hispanics is 5 children per couple and for Muslims it's 6.

Our culture is dying because we allowed the "progressive" traitors amongst us to promote our demise. The world will plunge into the dark ages as these backward represive cultures replace us, just as occured when the brabarians finally conquered Rome.

It's just another cycle coming to an end.

Dubya apparently intends to return the land to them. This part of California is already gone.

I'm not saying we should give them aid. I'm saying we should negotiate for concessions from Mexico to make Mexico a better place to work and run a business. This in turn would reduce the pressure on the border. We should point out to the Mexican government that the border problems are caused at least in part by historical Mexican internal policies, such as historically tolerating corruption on the part of low-level officials. I'm not in this field, but I suspect that an econometric model could be developed to show these relationships. There's a Peruvian economist named Hernando de Soto who has been documenting a lot of the reasons why capitalism is hindered in less developed countries. If we could nudge Mexico towards a more U.S.-like business environment, many Mexicans would start returning home on their own accord. I think if it were done well, President Fox would collaborate, since he probably would like to see more of this type of reform anyway.

Something's fishy here. Mexico lost the war over 150 years ago. Mexico is not a powerful country. How could any significant percentage of the people think that the land is rightfully theirs? I suspect that this polling was done with an agenda in mind (as polls usually are).

What next? England claims all land north of the Rio Grande? Queen claims Battle of Yorktown was English victory and the colonies are way behind in their tea tax?

Broaden your horizon and widen you peripheral vision.

All of the world's "indigenous peoples" are making insane, irrational, unjustafiable and historically-revisionist claims to other peoples' property and lands -- and are, by means of insidiously enabled evil judicious fiat, being granted them.

In the last ten years ownership of twenty percent of Australia's continental land mass has been given over to descendents of its earliest migrants -- none of whom ever even conceived of a world beyond his immediate horizon -- or of survival beyond the next goanna; [AKA "aboriginals"] New Zealand has experienced the same kind of return-to-the-stone-age insanities; [Its early migrants, only a hundred and fifty years or so ago rescued by the arrival of Judeo-Christian/Western Civilization from eating themselves into extinction and since given an entirely-white-man-created mythology that challenges War and Peace for its creativity -- and recently reclassified as "indigenous peoples"] Canada which would have none of it instead has Nunivut; [Or whatever the descendents of its early Asian migrants called it] Rhodesia and South Africa -- and all of momentarily-Civilized Africa -- no longer even exist; Fiji has overturned all of its history and progress and permitted a handful of armed thuggees to steal the entire country; Hawaii's institutionalized-racist "Democrats" pass ever more racist and un-Constitutional laws -- and Congress and the courts lack the balls and/or the inclination to challenge them -- "native Americans" have their own Mafia-exploited "laws" -- and on and on and on and on ........

And every day Mexico's "native peoples" [For the blatantly -racist bastards who promote these Goebelsian lies do not look like Vincente Fox!] are "brain" and feelings-washed about their "'rightful' ownership" of most of America!

And our self serving malignantly-malicious and ever-more-willing-to-divide-us politicians lick their bloody chops, rub their hands in glee -- and insidiously continue to stack the courts with tomorrows rulers by divisive judicial fiat!
