Who is running and hiding exactly?

Seems to me the people demanding to be "protected" against anything and everything imaginable are the ones running and hiding.

it is not so obvious that a complete reorganization is going to do anything.

A couple points.

Power is like gravity- unmolested, it self-consolidates. This takes no sinister intent and illustrates a political truth: More often than not, it is the naivete of those elected to the systemic dangers that is the issue rather than the malice of the individual.

Being the 'driver' the elect is swerving to protect his political life without regard to the course they nudge the nation upon.

That said, I still find it discomforting, very discomforting, that while Bush claims an independent investigation into 9-11 would detract important resources from the war on terror... reorganization of umpteen agencies with a deadline on 9-11-2002 is NOT a detraction.

This, IMO, is a type of 'political dodge' not only on Bushs part, but congress also -- a dodge that borders on (the impeachment legacy of) putting ones political career ahead of national interest.

The American people, truth be told, are in desperate need of the assurances such an investigation would provide- forget about the 'incompetence conspiracy'- I mean reinforcing the basic idea that the public is the ultimate inspector and has the means to induce the political heat neccessary to maintain future accountability and competence.

Who is working for who?

Sir Gawain,

Thank you for posting this article.  It was great.

I particularly like the following statement:

"What really takes the cake is the manner in which President Bush continues to coddle illegal aliens. He refuses to deport those whom U.S. law requires to be deported, he continues to promote the concept of granting amnesty to millions of illegal aliens, he refuses to take serious measures to keep likely terrorists out of our country, yet, he seems determined to thoroughly dismantle constitutional protection of our liberties."

Little boxes on the hillside...little boxes made of ticky-tacky...little boxes on the hillside and they all look just the same

It wouldn't take a whole lot of time away from the "War on Terrorism" for GWB to rescind at least a couple of Clinton's Executive Orders. Evidently, he has no intention of doing so. And that makes him very suspect.

Hyperbolic red herrings never add much to a substantive conversation. Our nation is under attack by a deadly enemy and must be protected from its attacks. You got a problem with that? Or did 9/11 never happen?

I can assure you, the 'sadness' was purely ironic.

Your rhetoric isn't actually sad, that's what's known as a trope or metaphor.

Contrast with a simile..'you're as thick as a brick'.

It's easy, really.

What is MOST disturbing to me is GWB's heavy handed willingness to turn the nation into a police state but at the same time do NOTHING about our outrageous immigration policies.

bingo!
