Thanks for the polling info on the speech. I posted this on another thread because it makes all the pundits and yahoos out there trying to spin this as "Bush responds to Congressional pressure" or that this is a Senate Democrat plan. It is from the Address to Congress and the Nation 9/20/2001:
Today, dozens of federal departments and agencies, as well as state and local governments, have responsibilities affecting homeland security. These efforts must be coordinated at the highest level. So tonight I announce the creation of a Cabinet-level position reporting directly to me -- the Office of Homeland Security.
And tonight I also announce a distinguished American to lead this effort, to strengthen American security: a military veteran, an effective governor, a true patriot, a trusted friend -- Pennsylvania's Tom Ridge. (Applause.) He will lead, oversee and coordinate a comprehensive national strategy to safeguard our country against terrorism, and respond to any attacks that may come.
Why anyone was surprised by this move, is beyond me. W's in charge, man. If the Dems were surprised, then they've been asleep at the wheel and most of the pressitutes cannot remember past the 24 hour news cycle. Pretty pathetic.

Now there's an idea. We can't go on vacation this year, having funded our daughter's trip to Europe, so instead I bought tropical plants and put them on the patio. They remind me of Florida. When it's sunny, I like to go out there early in the morning and drink coffee and pretend I am on vacation. LOL!

Congrats on the graduation. I'm so glad it went well. I shall be thinking of you these next two days. You will have to cherish them. I don't envy your emotional state right now.
On a lighter note, I just love the look on that boy's face. He is in total awe...."how cool is this, it's the President of the United States!" And he's (W, that is) someone his parents can be proud of too!

I'm so sorry you have to have that happen to someone you care about. My girlfriend is going through the same thing with her Mom. It's devastatingly difficult. Hang in there, and know that there are many here to care about you and your family. BIG HUGS!

DrDeb, if your family members have not read this marvelous book "The 36 Hour Day", please tell them about it and read it yourself.
36 Hour Day, Amazon.comMy grandmother has Alzheimer's and my other grandmother has stroke-induced dementia. Both continue to function to some degree, but their mis-firing brains continue to baffle us. Sometimes they remember things we ourselves had forgotten, but then they can't remember how to button a shirt or put on a shoe. It is a very informative, readable, comforting book written by someone who has been there and who understands what you are going through. Just understanding the illness better has helped all of us cope.

Drinks just taste better with that little umbrella, don't they? (especially if one is sitting on the beach)

I normally drink martinis. But when at the beach...pina coladas!!!
There is nothing better than having your drinks delivered to you on the beach, with those little umbrellas that remind you you are on vacation!
