My, my, isn't that a pretty knockoff of a bucolic Thomas Kinkade scene hanging at the Fetterly Gallery in Vallejo? Smoke curls from a charming New England cottage, a brick footbridge is reflected in a shimmering stream, and heavenly light filters through the trees.

"Well, now, isn't that . . . different?"

No. Actually it's more of the trite trash trying to pass itself of as "shocking". This isn't art, it's FART.

Kinkade's "art" is even more offensive....

Oh, yes! Imagine, glorifying the colors and lights of God's creation as if they're something admirable, as if they should inspire feelings of awe and appreciation for the Creator! And those homes, as if the creativity of man in fashioning and situating homes were a good thing! Creating paintings that uplift and inspire, rather than slap us in the face, drag us into the gutter, and upset and anger us as they should! Offensive! Awful!

And how bold of you to say so!

To critics, the show is anti-American, anti-Christian and anti-capitalism, not to mention obscene, blasphemous and maybe even seditious.

Exactly why those down at the Chronicle find the show so alluring. Its everything they are.

Could you help me with some sources on that?

Would love to. But since I didn't tape the phone call that came from the gallery where my Wife bought her Kinkade from, I can't. :-)

Okay..thanks anyway. If this is true then I'll feel much differently about Kincade.

Well, nobody in my family buys his stuff anymore. But a good idea might be to go to the FECs website and see if you can find out any contribs he's made and to whom.

There you go insulting God again. Face it. John Doyle or Michael Whelan or Mark Ryden exhibit more talent in one of their sneezes than Kinkade has in any of his work to date. But if you love the lowest common denominator, go for it. De gustibus est non disputandem.

Who are they?

(Warning: that question is a set-up.)

If you liked the skewering of Thomas Kinkade's awful motel art, but object to NEA funding of same, may I suggest the following site, which has a great collection of parodies and to my knowledge received no gov't grants.
