Pubbie, these pills are ones you take if you are going to be exposed to radiation . . . they somehow fill certain receptors in your body, so the radioactive stuff doesn't stick (or at least not as much of it). How's that for a scientific sounding explanation?!

ACK! I just visited the thread about the northern east coast and the nuclear concerns there....I am shocked that so many are lining up to get these pills....very alarming stuff, this. I guess your explanation of how the pills work is as good if not better than any other, guess I am glad this pill and its capabilities are known....at least the thyroid gland can be saved! This is all to wild for me...I am bummed.
