SAN DIEGO (AP) -- An American Airlines pilot faces misdemeanor charges for toting a loaded gun in his carry-on baggage while trying to board a plane at the San Diego airport.
William F. Blaylock told authorities he uses the gun for hunting and personal protection and had forgotten to remove it from his bag before heading to Lindbergh Field on April 23.
The weapon was detected during airport security screening.
On Friday, prosecutors filed two misdemeanor charges against Blaylock who, if convicted, faces up to a year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000. He has been free on bond since April 24 and will be arraigned next week.
The airline wouldn't comment.
Now that's a great pic - thanks for sharing it with all!
The Chula Vista PD SWAT team used our range for practice for a spell when their range was being repaired. The taught me to shoot their MP-9s -- their discipline was a three shot burst in full auto. Trigger discipline to learn that is difficult, but once mastered, a lot of fun. BTW, those guys would come to the range with a case of 9mm for every weapon! And they were not selfish! They let a lot of non-PD civilian folks "qualify" with their MP-9s. In those days, they were good guys. Don't know what they are like nowadays.
Wonder why the Gun Site offer is not in the news?
Smart.
I not long ago completed my 29,000th command hour -- and I won't go near a bloody aeroplane unless I have to -- and even then, only for money.
The arse-in-butter feral-gummint-funded bureaucratic carriers [There are no owners around, only Peter-Principled, politician-bribing, bean-counting, "employees] -- especially United, American and USAir -- are dinasaurs and should be allowed to fail before they kill more of US. TWA and Northwest are not worth a mention. SouthWest, though, is essentially owner-operated and thus meets the major requirement for an airline -- that it be run by entrepeneurial enthusiasts -- not bloody bureaucrats! The Continental/America West/Alaska/Air Mike group passes muster, too.
All of the world's state-owned-and/or subsidised carriers -- and particularly Asia's:- China Airlines; Singapore; Korean; Garuda Indonesia; Thai; Sri Lanka; Air India; Philippines; etceteras; all of China's will, among them, soon be losing a major hull per week in a major catastrophe. [Lately they seem to be close to that already]
EVA and [Particularly] Royal Brunei, Australia's Qantas and Air New Zealand stand out, though and Malaysia Airlines listens to its pilots.
Practically all of Europe's state dinasaurs should be avoided. [A couple are still very good:- British is acceptable and Finnair and Scandanavian stand out -- as do Virgin and all of the ballsy budget carriers!]
And all of Africa's and Arabia's [Emirates is a fine stand-out] are -- like Indian Airlines and Burma [Myanmar] Airways -- vomit comets on the way to the accident site!
I'm bluntly stating that you cannot trust a President who will not place his trust in our pilots because he dismisses, again, personal responsibility and individual rights.
While I am all for allowing the flight crews (cockpit) to be armed, I have to have certain reservations about allowing any member of the airline staff, pilot or not, being allowed to carry.
If he was merely a staff pilot for the airline in question, then I would think that he should have been able to declare the weapon and either have it stowed in his checked baggage, or given to the cockpit crew (unloaded of course) to hold for the flight (like they used to do back in the 70's).
There are not concrete barriers arrayed to stop a head-long charge by one or more of these cabbies and their car-bombs ... into the ground floor of the terminal; or for that matter, into and along any of the corriders of the passenger concourses!
There are absolutely no observation towers at any point along the perimeter of the airfield; there is not patrol.
Hijackers do not need passengers; they only need the planes.
There is not force to stop a concerted effort by 20 to 80 Islami-Fascists who can easily get onto the airport proper and take any number of aircraft.
At Chicago's O'Hare Field, such teams could attack the lineup of jets awaiting takeoff and leave with, out of group of 10 aircraft, probably 3 to 4, after shooting up the entire fuselage of the first plane in line, "to make a point" to the succeeding aircraft pilots observing the horror.
And we are expected to listen to lectures on how our pilots should not --- according to President Bush and the Bush [still running the Clinton Administration] --- carry firearms?!
Could we be seeing more of this?

My first Smith & Wesson was the 629PP. It has a 6 1/2" barrel with a port. I selected that one because it is long enough to meet most state handgun hunting requirements. I later added a 4 inch 629 because it is easier to find good leather for carry. Most of the time I like to shoot those two with 44 SPL. It's accurate and comfortable. More than adequate for self defense against the two-legged variety. The magnum rounds make good self defense when hiking in a area with predators e.g. black bear and mountain lions. We have both around here.
Sounds like you worked at Discount Gun Mart. Just a bit north of Clairemont Drive and east of I-5. That is a fairly nice shop. I had an annual membership at American Shooting Center, so it didn't make sense to pay for range time at Discount. I did pay for rentals and range time at the Oceanside Shooting Academy (near State 76 and Benet Rd). They have a very large selection of handguns from nearly every manufacturer for rent and/or sale. I tried out the Ruger .454 Casull there and liked it very much. When I was ready to buy one, they sold it to me at cost + $25. No other dealer was even close and that model was on allocation at th e time.
I know :-) My wife should have selected a screen name like yours. Her handgun collection outnumbers mine, but most of it is more tame and practical.
