THINK the venture capitalists on Wall Street are good at raising money? They've got nothing on the lawyers who have been cleaning up on the lawsuits the tobacco companies recently settled with the states. The agreements will provide some of the plaintiffs' attorneys (between 200 and 300 of them) with payments totaling $500 million per year almost in perpetuity. For some, this works out to a payment of more than $100,000 per hour worked.

Ho hum....
But, WHEN LAWYERS GO GOOD!..... now THERE'S a piece of news!!

Drop in on your personal friend that is a lawyer, tell him you want to sue another lawyer in town for malpractice. Record what he says, after he regains consciousness.
I was thinking more like the second they enter law school.
I wonder why???????
Many lawyers are simply highly educated sociopaths and unindicted criminals.
"The Law" for such individuals simply a unimaginably lucrative, utterly corrupt money machine, assuming all the proper payoffs are made, the key judges are purchased, and a pliable, well-controlled venue is available.
I always wondered why states had to hire outside lawyers to sue the tobacco companies. In Texas, we were supposed to have a good attorney general and I personally believe most anyone could have been used to for this 'shake-down'.
Now I hate smoking as much as the next person, but the next time someone speaks about how much smokers cost the economy, I would like for them to think how much in taxes the smokers pay. It is probably more than enough to make up for whatever extra they might cost - if it were used properly. Of course, the records show very little of the Texas settlement is being used correctly.
Also, think of the costs to society of alcohol - it must be staggering.
Yeah, it never seems to be their career path, does it?
With the passage of time, lawyers rot; they never ripen.
Attorneys genuinely believe that they are above the law, that laws do not apply to them, and that they can misuse and abuse others without the slightest guilt. This is the definition of an anti-social personality. In the case of the lawyer industry such criminal "professional practice" consists of brazen theft and heartless exploitation.
Ouch, that Lynne Stewart pains the old eyes!
In the case of the breathtakingly repulsive Lynne Stewart, we see a bone fide traitor working actively to assist in a mass murder conspiracy. Usually lawyers restrict their so-called "professional practices" to theft and exploitation.
I agree, however, that most plaintiff's trial lawyers are opportunistic scum of the earth....
They were democRats in their political life, but when it came to their staffers they were fascist pigs.
