In what can be called a massive restructuring and combining of government agencies, President Bush addressed the country this evening and outlined his proposal for elevating the Department of Homeland Security to a cabinet position. In this new cabinet position, the following agencies will be consolidated into one mission, homeland security: the Coast Guard, the Border Patrol, the Customs Service, Immigration officials, the Transportation Security Administration, and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. In addition to sharing information among all of these different agencies, the Department of Homeland Defense will be charged with four tasks:
1. To control our borders and prevent terrorists and explosives from entering our country.
2. To work with state and local authorities to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies.
3. To bring together our best scientists to develop technologies that detect biological, chemical, and nuclear weapons, and to discover the drugs and treatments to best protect our citizens.
4. To review intelligence and law enforcement information from all agencies of government, and produce a single daily picture of threats against our homeland. Analysts will be responsible for imagining the worst, and planning to counter it.
The President urged Americans to call their representatives and encourage them to support the plan. Enjoy your daily dose of Dubya!

President was great tonight. Short and sweet. I would have preferred a longer speech with more details but no matter. This venue (speaking directly into the camera) has never been this President's forte, but he's really made great strides from when he started doing it. He was great tonight - my only complaint was that the delivery seemed a tad bit rushed at times.

Ouch, that's hot. We're having a milder than normal Texas summer so far. I know it won't last, but I don't think we've broken 93 yet and have been lower than that most days. So much for global warming around here.

Hmmm...I'm out here on the Central Coast of California, but Mr. Inspectorette and I are flying back to DC June 15 to visit with our daughter and her family. She gave birth last Tuesday (May 28) to her third baby boy, a beautiful boy, 8 lbs., 5 oz. - a brand-new little Marine named Ethan Gregory (son-in-law is USMC Captain stationed at the Pentagon.
Of course, we don't care if it gets to be 120 degrees with 99% humidity, nothing's gonna keep us away from that baby.
Also, Mr. Inspectorette is hoping we can get to the White House to see Jim Angle and Wendell Goler, and to the Capitol, and hopefully see Carl Cameron.

BTW, you are one incredible party-prep queen!LOL! Not bad for a tomboy who would have rather died than do 'girl' things, eh?!
Yes, the executive, business side of the President may end up being his most important quality......other than of course his integrity, honor, dignity, honesty, conservatism, intelligence, and overall cuteness. :o)

Yah, they're both stirring the broth in their dem caldron and pondering what to do.
PROBLEM IS that George, Rove and Co. have figured out the solution to the chess game, and they only have a couple of possible moves...LONG LIVE STRATEGERY!!!

Looks like Gephardt and Daschle are hiding out tonight as they are still residing in the hall of shame for their general behavior I hadn't realized it til you mentioned it, but you're right - they were nowhere to be seen tonight. On the other hand, Lieberman seemed to have been cloned and in front of every camera available.

As usual wonderful! Thanks so much!

Did you hear the rapist's new dog is named Seamus -- pronounced Shame-us. How very appropriate, lol.

San Diego is the most beautiful city you could ever live in. When daughter and son-in-law were stationed at Camp Pendleton, we used to go down there all the time. The climate is perfect, and the scenery is gorgeous. Only problem is the (gulp!) cost of real estate.

I live in Illinois and can be there in about 6 hours, I know the city, I used to live in Shelby....LOL
I sympathize with you, I know exactly how you feel, but you can get through this....the hardest part is not hearing from them for so long and worrying what is happening.....be strong and freep me when you need a hug.

Lieberman is a presidential wanna be. Of course he is going to put his face in front of every camera he possibly can.

I saw Lieberman on Fox tonight and he seemed actually supportive. Perhaps he's campaigning again, but you know he's going to find something objectionable before it's all over with.
