I have to back you up on this. I didn't like the father either, he had a "Susan Smith" quality about him. It would be wrong of me to pass judgement, though.

Fascinating post arcy. Thanks for telling us about your work with K9 search team. Wow! Freepers are interesting.

my husband and i discuss this often... if he's going to kill you, he's going to kill you... might as well take your chances resisting--kicking and screaming... we tell our six year old to scream at the top of his lungs if anybody tries to take him or hurt him... but i wonder if he would in a real situation... as an adult, it's easy to see why you should resist, but to a kid--it may not be so clear... like Polly Klaas... according to her friends, she went with Richard Allan Davis because she didn't want him to hurt her parents...

Our daughter is small, too. We enrolled her in
Krav Maga and got her a pistol.

But even if Elizabeth Smart is not located in the vicinity the attempt to do so will not be a *nmeaningless* one, though it may indeed be fruitless. Then explain why you say this: (I'm quoting from this post):
Thank you. I have now removed the information regarding the search for her from the other missing opersons alerts on my profile page and the K9 search operations website, and if I hear of her body being located, I'll ping you to the thread.

I lived up in beautiful Cache Valley (Logan) for years and got married in 1979 to a girl from Brigham City. Utah is a great place and does not need tragedies like this to put it on the map.
God bless the families and the searchers involved.

Is anyone else wondering why a million dollar home apparently did not have a security system? Or, if it did, why it was turned off?

So, you're saying that the father did it and got his 9 year old daughter to lie. Is that right? Next we'll hear about a neighborhood sex ring / witchcraft / drug culture that sacrifices children after using them in porno movies. Right? After all, that is what happens in the rich neighborhoods, isn't it ? Then we'll hear that John Ramsey was seen lurking in the neighborhood on the night Elizabeth disappeared. Several of you on this thread, not just you LMR, have jumped to this conclusion based on what you've seen of the father on T.V. Nonsense! It was reported that both parents collapsed from emotional and physical exhaustion this morning. A beautiful young girl, once again, has been taken and is likely dead. This family needs your prayers not your tabloid mentality.

I heard that they do have a security system, but that the father told the police that they leave it OFF at night! Sounds very strange.

But there was a postscript to the Smith case: two years later a van with seven persons in it went down that same ramp while visiting the memorial to the Smith children, and three adults and four children drowned. Tragedy followed atrocity, and that community took another blow it didn't deserve. I had completely forgotten about that until you just mentioned it now. What a shame. I read about a year ago that David Smith has since remarried and now has a baby daughter. I wish him all of the happiness in the world. Her, I hope she rots in the jail cell she is confined to.

Hunterdon County! The most beautiful county in NJ. Lucky you!

This family needs your prayers not your tabloid mentality I agree with your assessment of some of the posts, Mawg. The dad has been hung out to dry by some. Fact is, we don't know these people from Adam, and I venture to guess that this situation hasn't happened to any FReepers (and if it did, my sincere apologies), so it really is unfair to say he behaved inappropiately on camera. The guy is obviously not in his right frame of mind.

Because it's very much now beginning to appear that Ms Smart is no more going to be located any more than Kristin Smart has been, with an unpleasant echo of the Jon Benet Ramsey case and the lack of a satisfactory conclusion in that sad affair. And it also appears that there an effort at FReep to silence any consideration of the possibility that Salt Lake's Mormons might be inclined toward the same sort of proclivities as some Catholic priests, so my experience tells me that while there may be a body located, a live save is very less likely in this case.
Note too that in the numbers I offered as to past saves and recoveries in which I've been involved, I've had more of the latter. That's in part because the state in which I was operating had rivers for two of the state's boundaries and water searches with subsequent recoveries of drowning victims, including one found in a tree, were more commonplace than they might be in the Salt Lake area. And of 30+ unsolved deaths of young girls or women who were missing and whose bodies were eventually located from around 1977 to 1996, most remain either unsolved or were cleared by chalking them up to a suspect who'd confess to anything to cut a deal, or who was dead and conveniently unable to respond to the accusations.
BTW, the search for Nell Califf in Mississippi has ended as well. She was 83.

The house is still listed for sale @ $1.19M. It specifically lists an alarm system as one of the amenities. For complete listing, click

If he isnt involved....he knows who is. I guess it's fun to speculate about these things for some. I assume that if your speculation proves to be wrong that you will publicly retract on this forum at once. Am I correct?
