Nader Suggests U.S. Stop Buying Microsoft Products, WSJ Says
2002-06-05 08:13 (New York)

Washington, June 5 (Bloomberg) -- Consumer advocate Ralph Nader suggested the U.S. government stop buying products made by Microsoft Corp. to fight its market dominance in computer- operating systems and office-productivity software, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Nader wrote the U.S. Office of Management and Budget, saying that refusing to buy from the world's largest software maker would accomplish more than the government's lengthy antitrust case against the company, according to the newspaper.

A federal appeals court last year upheld a ruling that Microsoft violated antitrust law. The court overturned a judge's decision to break up the software maker and ordered consideration of new remedies.

``If Mr. Nader took a close look at the software industry, he would find that no one delivers more technology at affordable prices to empower consumers worldwide,'' an unidentified Microsoft spokeswoman told the Journal.

Well, that settles it. I'm buying Microsoft products. I dislike Nader more than I dislike Gates (who's quite the socialist lately himself).

Man, this is a real dellemna (sp?) for me.

Nader here is suggesting that Microsoft does not deserve a TRIAL. But that the US government should be judge, jury and executioner!!!

That's too bad and probably why I didn't vote for him.

Affordable prices. More like highway robbery because of a monopoly... and it's free if you are trying to blow away a competitor like netscape. Open source will do them in the end but it is going to take a decade or so.

Sure, Ralph. Whatever you say.

Now go take your meds.

=======================

An interesting question: who has benefited society more: Bill Gates or Ralph Nader? Who has created more jobs? Who has increased everyone's productivity and knowledge?...

Maybe Janet Reno should have gone up against Nader and his self-aggrandizing "PIRGs".

From where I sit, the Open Source Wacktovists seem to be digging their own grave which is good. I look forward to a future where I will be able to buy quality, easy-to-use software that does what I want it to do and where I will hardly ever have to think about the O/S.

Right now, I have just about gone mad trying to figure out how to install stuff on LUNIX. If going from a Ford to a Dodge where as wacked out as going between Solaris, AIX, and linux, it really would be unsafe at any speed.

LUNIX is all about making the routine impossible. Which is a very liberal thing.

Nader is one of those people who doesn't understand or does not care to understand basic economics. If microsoft loses money, then the rest of the tech stocks will too, people will lose their jobs, and overall spending will also go down, from both the executives minus bonus's to the unemployed to the service sector that works on commishion. He likes his cute little principles, but doesn't care that the results hurt real families and real people.

Unfortunately, his principles aren't very "principled". His lack of understanding of the laws of economics really hamper his ability to understand anything that involves wealth. But, I do admire his honesty even if he is almost always wrong.

I hear LINUX is tough to install things on, also. I passed on XP and LINUX and bought a Mac for my new computer. I have to have Photoshop, and I'm really sick of the new Microsoft licensing schemes, where (1) Your system shuts down if you make too many changes to it and you have to call Microsoft to get an unlock code, (2) the new EULA gives Microsoft the right to search your hard drive, (3) Microsoft now wants to go subscription, which means they want you to pay them every year.

Nader's a dork, but I'm sick of Microsoft.

First time Nader ever made sense to me ;') Besides, he split the vote and helped elect Bush - give the guy a break. Somewhere in my seventh reboot of the day, thanks to windoze rotten memory management, as I swear "%$$%@$ you, Bill Gates!" I realize that Nader isn't even in the running.

I agree with you on XP.

In general, I choose my words very carefully:

LUNIX=Linux + UNIX

Nader understands economics too well! Just check his stock portfolio. He probably shorted Microsoft right before this press release.

What does Solaris and AIX have to do with Open Source?
