It gives them something that they want very badly: An endless source for anti-capitalist - and anti-Republican - demagoguery.
You see, when your opposition admits that your premises are correct, you have essentially won the arguement. The implementation of that victory will come later, bit by bit, over time. The next Democrat President will have carte blanche to invoke whatever anti-business environmental provisions he/she wishes -- because the Republican President has agreed to the premise that there is global warming caused by human activity.
Because that Republican President has also chosen not to invoke Kyoto and not to implement any policy changes in response to this condition, they will also be subject to the "do nothing" charge (a mirror of the current campaign that the government knew about 9/11 dangers in advance and "did nothing" to prevent it).
When that "do nothing" demagoguery is turned to the health dangers to voter's children ("your child will die of melanoma at 25 because of greedy rich businessmen and their purchased Republican politicians"), then President Bush will have given the environmentalist left a gift that will only keep on giving, year after year after year.
And I get zinged because in my case after all, it is George Bush...
I just got back from a weekend at my summer house up in the Catskill Mts. in NY. Driving up through Yonkers on the Sprain Brook Pkwy, you notice how lush and green everything is. On the Taconic Pkwy, you see nothing but green stretching for miles, and it's all the same crossing the Hudson into the beautiful, lush mountains.
I couldn't recall any factory, or industry, or corporate monstrosity blighting the countryside. Don't recall any pollution or foul air either- everyone seemed to be driving smart, sensible cars and- yes- SUVs. Didn't see much evidence of our supposed "terrible" drought, either, a typical May rain has left our lovely watersheds at 85% capacity.
Yet all this natural beauty occurs within one of the most densely populated and industrialized areas on earth. The visual evidence of mankind's footprint on this environment is rather slight, and the thought that we're causing catastrophic weather change seems laughable.
Oh, and there was still some lingering snow on the slopes of Windham Mountain. In June. A first, according to the locals.
11. One of Bush's first initiatives was to stop the public funding of overseas abortions much to the dismay of the left wing, liberal Europeans, the feminazis and their media cheerleaders.
12. Reinstated the so-called Mexico City policy, which linked anti-abortion policies and foreign aid.
13. He appointed real conservatives to his cabinet, and in the case of Ashcroft remained committed to him in the face of over 100 leftist groups who vowed up to defeat him.
14. Has consistantly pushed for drilling in ANWR to increase domestic oil production and reduce foriegn dependence.
I don't agree with everything Bush has given the Dems, but those who claim there is nothing conservative about Bush are ignoring the facts and are lacking in perspective.
Hmm, Rush is going after the Brigaders, Libertarians, and holier than thou conservatives.
Sheesh talk about cutting market share. I guess Rush thinks that "New Coke" was a success.
Oh well, it is a free country.
But they key here is that Bush can do nothing with a Democratically controlled Senate. Win back the Senate, and win back the bully pulpit. You may disagree with that, but I think this is where we will truly see the real plan behind all the 'compromises' this year. I will remain an optimist, especially after eight years of utter hopelessness.
What nationality were most of the hijackers, anyway?
Weren't they Saudis?
The Saudis claimed to have disowned Bin Ladin and al Qaeda, but these were lies.
They were, in fact, continuously supporting them, and continue to support them today.
In fact, the Bin Ladin family continues to do so by its activities in the Boston area.
And Saudi newspapers and networks, along with the people of Saudi Arabia, have entirely endorsed and supported the events of 9/11.
Do you not believe this is true?
And so, yes, Saudi Arabia should have been the nation to declare war against, along with Afghanistan, after September 11.
In fact, the Afghans could claim they did not have the power to purge out the alQaeda scum.
Saudi Arabia is a different story, however.
They have consistently had the money, the intelligence, the infrastructure, and the philosophical high ground (sic) to be the source and the center of radical Islam, and of the events of 9/11.
And I think that us zeroing in on Afghanistan and the handful of creeps in alQuaeda camps there was just ducking the real fight with the real bully, Saudi Arabia.
Both Sean and Rush understand all the facts and they are not lying. The problem with the report isn't that there isn't plenty of skepticism about globull warming in it, which there is, the problem is there are many damaging statements that seem to concede the lies of the globull alarmists. These are the kinds of things that shift the debate to favor the left. They are admitting there is a problem when in fact there isn't, this fuels the fire for the government to do something about it.
It frustrates me a great deal, that people will throw away so much over the fact that a President or candidate does not agree with them 100%.

You make an inarguable point, my FRiend...however, distancing oneself from Dubyuh's recent policy capitulations goes beyond one individual's rantings, especially one with a 10-year guaranteed $200+ Million contract. You are FRee disparage Rush's motivations all you want, but he's always been a net positive in my book. Please don't be too quick to discount his counsel, my learned FRiend.

Sure he is...but I do not remember Rush criticizing Dubyuh about his response to 9/11. Nor do I remember him calling out Dubyuh for his Tax Cut...except for maybe the indisputable fact that it was too little, too far in the future. As a former commentator, I'm sure you have a unique appreciation of the importance of ratings, but courting controversy only works for a short period of time unless you are on the Right side of the issue...wouldn't you agree?!

That was negated by their position on restrictive gun laws,
being ok. Unless the Supreme Court does a complete flip,
it matters little what the administration's position is.

Good point. That's what bothers me the most about this Global Warming report and accompanying do-nothing policy.
Unfortunately Bush was between a rock and a hard place on this issue.

Maybe not, but it is a wrong one. Popular opinion does not
change facts, just the meaning of those facts.
You can say that yes, Clinton had everything screwed up, and yes, Bush was doing his best by 9/11 to straighten things out, and it happened, but one thing is certain:
History will totally condemn George W. Bush as a wimp and a complete failure, if, following the very serious attack on the United States on 9/11, he responded only as he has, with very limited strikes on a nation involved only in the periphery.
Furthermore, Bush's failure to hold the Saudis responsible for 9/11 will be seen as the most craven act of cowardice that any public leader ever committed, ever, in the history of Western Civilization.
I will be watching the History Channel in the bunker of my nursing home, wearing Depends, and I can see the documentary now.
If you think history is going to slam X42, you will be amazed at how the historians will crack on W for wimping out in the War on Terrorism.
Mark my words.
