IMHO, I think we have to make some decisions, and they are tough ones.

We need to decide if we are going to work over the long haul, or stick with the short-term. Unlike some here, I have NOT banished Rush. I think he has some valid concerns. At the same time, though, I think we need to learn from the past, and recognize that McAuliffe, Carville, and Begala and their slash-and-burn, disregard-the-truth style of politics ARE NOT GOING AWAY, and we must change our tactics and methods to take this into account.

I have defined WINNING as one of two things:
1. Getting legislation passed that will reflect my positions.
2. Creating a political climate so that we can pass legislation that reflects my positions.

Furthermore, I am not going to engage in a political frontal attack unless it means we will WIN. Quite frankly, a lot of the stuff I believe in is not exactly easy to package in the current political climate, so we need to CHANGE the political climate by re-packaging the way we sell what we believe in.

We also need to make a decision about dealing with McAuliffe-Carville-Begala politics. I think, for the most part, we can take the high road, but SOME retaliation is in order. Senator Byrd is a nice target.

I don't know what course others may take, but at this point, I'll work within the GOP to WIN as I have defined things above. In accordance with that decision, I will also have NO tolerance for those who will put those who oppose what I stand for in office by breaking off, whether they be on the right or the left. No more Donnie DiFrancescos, no more John Warners, and no more Bob Smiths will get my support. And those who DO support politicians them are, in my opinion, helping elect politicians that oppose what I stand for.

That is where I stand on this matter. As I said, I cannot help if some here think I am a sellout or a coward, but I'm laying it out on the table here and drawing my line in the sand.

Now it's Sean Hannity's turn: "He (Bush)has made a political, strategic miscalculation about all this!"

There are those on both sides who would rather have a heated debate instead of personal slams. I am one of those.

I like to think that I am too, my friend. It's been difficult of late, however.

Bush HAS convinced the soccer moms of his high character

Um, Soccer Moms don't give a fig about "high character", check Billy Jeff's numbers with this demographic. It's "all about the children" for those quintessential sheep. I'm all for getting their votes, but not at the cost of principle.

many of them will vote Republican FOR THE FIRST TIME in coming elections.

We'll see. After Hillary and Jim Edwards or Lieberman get their swings in.

So why all of a sudden are these newspapers trustworthy, and not guilty of spin?

Because it gets them attention, which the media (and that includes Rush) crave. Just look at all the knee-jerk response you are reading here today. It gets attention, and it brings Rush's name back on FR.

I don't listen to Rush anymore, since I get no new information or humorous analysis anymore - just harping.

Rush would have done the same thing to Reagan, if he were around then. It's the nature of the beast..

I hate to say it people, but with all this in-fighting, we don't need to worry about the liberals in 02 or 04. We need to worry about each other. United we stand, divded we fall- and the Dems are loving every single minute of it. I guess the only good that could possibly come from all this is that with a common enemy, we'll all unite together once again- just like we did on Nov. 7th, 2000 and Sept. 11th, 2001.

This is normal and actually desirable. Let our ideals be forged in the crucible of introspection and analysis.

Furthermore, if you think we are bad, try being in the Democrat party, which is described best as 'herding cats'.

CFR

Weren't you paying attention during the campaign? Did you think he was joking when he said he was FOR some sort of campaign finance reform -- regardless of HOW it got signed -- and the worst parts of it WILL be struck down by the SC

immigration

I don't mean to trouble you, but what ABOUT immigration? Has a bill passed?

increased welfare benefits

Not to mess up your rant, but that is tied to PERFORMANCE

extending unemployment by 13 weeks

To the people whose jobs were effected by 9-11? You're right; how horrible of him!

food stamps to immigrants

You'll have to do better than that.

abandoning the Bush Doctrine

Excuse me? Exactly when did he put out a paper which included all the "Bush doctrine" rules/goals?

quitting on ANWR drilling

And you know he's quit how?

(also caving in on Florida drilling for his brotha Jeb)

That's your opinion.

signing that piece of crap farm bill

I'm with you on that until a better case can be shown to me of why he did it.

and now agreeing with the left that HUMANS are causing global warming

Where, other than the NYT, did you hear Bush say that?

NONE OF THESE ARE ADVANCING THE CONSERVATIVE AGENDA!

I don't believe that for one moment. We ARE making progress -- but it's easier to pick a few and gripe about them, huh, rather than look at the whole picture.

The "whole" picture looks better than you'd EVER admit. And much better than YOUR candidate could have done.

Don't need to ponder it because I, quite obviously, don't see it the way you do. Is that all you have? And Bush is a failure becuase of that?

Haven't you been paying attention? Subscriptions for newspapers keeps going down and down each and every year...

I wonder if the fact that most new Americans speak English as a second language, if at all.

Actually, soccer moms were considered a Republican constituency before Klinton got them in 96'.

Very true. Most of the people in the US also believe in a centralized socialist government to give them entitlements from cradle to grave.

Hopefully Republicans will get back the Senate in 2002 and then I foresee Bush pushing his conservative agenda full force.

And I have a bridge in downtown Manhattan to sell you. Goes all the way across and everything.

When I listened to this, I found that he was validating. He said, as you drill down into the "policy" that all the Bush administration was saying, was that there was nothing that could be done to reverse the process, and they planned to do nothing different in the future. At least that was my take.
